Pet care experience

Trusted local pet care

I have been around animals my entire life and grew up caring for dogs, cats, hamsters, and even reptiles. Over the past five years, my family has had a full house of pets, including one dog, two cats, guinea pigs, hamsters, and a chameleon, so I’m very comfortable with a variety of animals and their unique needs. In 2021, I completed training to have my golden retriever certified as a therapy dog. After becoming licensed, she worked alongside me in public schools, where she provided comfort and support to students. That experience strengthened my skills in handling, training, and understanding animals while ensuring they feel safe, calm, and well cared for.

Joanna took such great care of my cats while I was out of town. From the moment I left, I felt completely at ease knowing they were in good hands. She made sure everything was taken care of—from feeding and litter to giving them attention and making them feel comfortable. It was clear she genuinely cares about animals, and my cats were happy and relaxed when I returned. I would absolutely trust her again and highly recommend her to anyone looking for dependable, loving pet care.

Schedule

Pet care fits easily into my daily routine because I work from home, which allows me to give animals plenty of attention throughout the day. I’m able to provide regular potty breaks, feeding, playtime, and check-ins to make sure pets are comfortable and well cared for. Since I’m home most of the time, pets are rarely left alone and can enjoy a calm, consistent environment. Caring for animals is already part of my daily life with our own pets, so adding additional pet care feels like a natural extension of our routine.

Safety, trust & environment

My home is very pet-friendly and used to having animals around. I have a family of five with three kids ages 11–16 who all love animals and are respectful of their personalities and space. Since I already have pets in our home, I understand the importance of maintaining routines, providing regular feeding times, potty breaks, playtime, and plenty of attention. When caring for pets in my home, I focus on making them feel safe and comfortable, just like part of the family. When caring for pets in a client’s home, I follow the pet’s normal routine as closely as possible, including feeding schedules, walks, playtime, and any special instructions the owner provides. My goal is always to make sure pets feel relaxed, well cared for, and loved while their owners are away.

Pets

A typical day

I love keeping both cats and dogs engaged with fun, enriching activities based on their personality and energy level. For dogs, this might include walks, playtime like fetch or tug-of-war, and simple training or games, along with plenty of affection. For cats, I enjoy interactive play with wand toys or lasers, tossing toys for them to chase, gentle brushing, and giving them attention on their terms. I always make sure to balance play with relaxation and stick closely to each pet’s normal routine so they feel comfortable, happy, and well cared for.

Before caring for a pet, I like to know their daily routine, including feeding schedule, portion sizes, and any medications or special care instructions. It’s also helpful to understand their personality, energy level, and any behaviors like anxiety, shyness, or triggers. I ask about potty routines for dogs, litter box setup for cats, and any favorite toys or activities they enjoy. I also like to have emergency contact information, vet details, and any house-specific instructions.
