The initial meet and greet with Alec was successful, and the first segment of our booking proceeded without issue. Alec demonstrated a professional and attentive demeanor, and appeared to genuinely enjoy canine care. Our booking spanned April 1st to April 13th, coinciding with our cruise, a detail communicated to him. From April 1st to April 8th, we received timely updates, and our dog, Holly, seemed to be well-cared for and enjoying her stay. However, on April 9th, while we were abroad, we were notified that Holly was involved in an incident and required immediate pickup. We were informed that Holly had bitten another dog. This came as a surprise, as Holly had previously interacted positively with the sitter's dog during the meet and greet, and had been playing amicably with both that dog and a another dog (presumably another Rover sit) daily prior to the incident. I was informed that an additional "friend's dog" had arrived that morning (bringing the total to 4 dogs, including Holly) and was involved in the incident. I was also advised that the "friend's dog" sustained no injuries and they were being kept separate until Holly was picked up. Due to the need to arrange emergency accommodations for Holly, our options for her care for the remaining four days of our trip were limited. This required her pickup by an individual who was unable to house her due to their residential restrictions. They reported no visible injuries on Holly and stated that they were met outside with Holly and her belongings upon arrival. They did not observe any other dogs. That evening, Holly was forced to stay outdoors overnight in a neighbor's fenced yard (who also was out of town) until our return from the cruise on April 13th (4 days). Holly suffers from separation anxiety, which was the primary reason we chose Rover over a kennel, and she has never previously spent a night outdoors. This has undoubtedly been a traumatic experience for her. Upon seeking a resolution through Rover, they conducted an "investigation" that yielded information that contradicted the details provided to us the morning of April 9th. Although we have recently been informed by Rover that we will receive a partial refund (approved by the sitter), we will not be utilizing Rover's services again due to this experience.
