I adopted Smurfy, an 11 lb Pomeranian–Chihuahua mix, in July 2024, when he was about two years old. Because of a history of abuse and neglect, he initially struggled with trust and was fearful of sudden movements, loud noises, and unfamiliar people. To help him adjust, I began bringing him to my workplace so we could spend more time together and strengthen our bond. During this time, Smurfy quickly formed a close connection with Lexi. Lexi has been instrumental in helping him overcome his insecurities. She’s taught him commands like sit, shake, and sit pretty, and has cared for him on several occasions when I’ve been away. He clearly trusts her and genuinely enjoys being with her, which is evident in how excited he gets when he sees her and how calm he remains when they’re alone together. I fully trust Lexi and feel confident that Smurfy is happy and well cared for in her presence. Therefore, if she can develop such a bond with a fearful dog like Smurfy, I am confident she will take great care of your dog.
