I am completing a fieldwork rotation at Shirley Ryan and will be working from 7:30-4pm approximately! I will be here for 3 months! I am happy to check in on animals before or after my work time if needed :)

I strive to provide stellar care for all animals and owners. I preferred to stay with most animals in their own home, as I believe this is where they are most comfortable and familiar with their own territory. I love to meet and speak with the owners beforehand to gain as much information about their animal and what kind of care they specifically need and are expecting. since I have worked in the veterinary field, I have learned to pick up on many behavioral cues from animals and have learned techniques on how to provide calming and stress-free care.

A typical day
I am moving to Chicago for 3 months after living in Plymouth and Cincinnati. I love to get out and explore hiking trails and new areas. I would love to take furry companions with me. I also love creating activities that stimulate the animals like snuffle mats!

Pet care experience
Hi I’m Abbey :) I cannot wait to meet your best friend and make them my best friend! I have been watching animals since I was 10. It started off as a few neighbor animals then it turned into overnight, stays in their homes, providing full-time care to their animals and even working in a veterinarian office. When I was obtaining my undergraduate degree in biology at Xavier University, I worked in a veterinarian office for three years I worked with animals in many stages of life from puppies to senior care. I have managed conditions like diabetes, incontinence, managing 5-6 medications, providing fluids and injections. I have experience watching households with 3+ animals. For example, a regular client has 2 80+ lbs dogs, 3 cats, and 15 chickens. I’ve gained a lot of knowledge working in the veterinary field, so I have lots of insights into animal behaviors as well as how that’s to care for them. I am currently going back to school full-time for a doctorate degree. I want to continue to make new furry friends and provide the best care possible. I also love keeping connected with the owners and sending lots of update pictures!

Abbey did a great job of caring for our older cat and was willing to administer medicine if needed. Based on the pictures I can tell our cat warmed up to her. We will definitely work with Abbey again in the future.
Abbey was awesome! I came home to a very happy & healthy kitty after a week away.
We are so grateful for Abbey caring for our 18.5 year old cat who needed daily medications and fluids twice while we were away!
