answered a question I am considering filling out an application to become a dog walker/sitter however I would like to know how the pay works?

You will get your pay a couple days after each job ends. You can get it through PayPal or get a check if you are in an area where Rover does checks. There is a small fee if you want a check though.

answered a question what are the ways to pay?

Cash payment is not an option. Rover can’t take their cut if you pay the sitter with cash. You have to pay with a card upon booking. PayPal might also be an option, but not totally sure about that.

answered a question What is considered normal pick up and drop off times?

That doesn't happen. You book through Rover but there isn't any way to officially track the stay with Rover. For walks and drop ins the sitter can say that they've started the service, but there is nothing like that for boarding, house sitting, or day care.

I tell people to think of rover as being the care.com for dogs...assuming you know what care.com is. Families and sitters use the platforms to connect but when it comes to the services actually being provided there is very limited if any involvement from the host platform. Rover is a bit more involved then care.com, mostly because you have to officially book through the platform to get paid, but other then that they are just here to provide assistance if anything goes wrong.

answered a question What does the 'modify' option mean when I open the menu for the current stay? Does the owner get to confirm the modification?

I don't think it's really a good idea to charge more or less depending on the dogs behavior/how hard or easy they are. You can charge more for puppies but adult dogs should all be the same, the only exception I can see is a dog that needs significant medical attention.

You can however modify the booking if they came back early or needed to be gone longer.

answered a question When do I stop going over to the house?

Like someone else said each night they pay for includes 24 hour of care. It will up to you to decided what that charge if it turns out that they will be going over their 24 hours time period for the last day.

Personally I will give clients a few extra hours before I charge an additional rate.

answered a question If I meet & greet with multiple sitters before booking, once I have 'officially' booked with one of them, will rover notify the unbooked sitters, or is that my responsibility?

Is she upset about not being picked, or about not being notified?

No rover will not notify if you decide not to book a sitter. In the future you should thank them for the meet and greet and let them know that you’ve picked someone else.

It can actually hurt their business if they are just waiting around for you, because from what I’ve read it seems that once a request is made it can take you out of search results for that time because of the potential booking. So it’s best to let them know so they can archive the request.

answered a question do i have to answer a message if i dont feel comfortable even going to the meet and greet?

Yes should answer and politely tell them it’s a bad fit. I’ve had to turn down 3 clients now because their dogs were unaltered and even though I have it listed in my profile that I don’t accept unaltered dogs in my home they still contacted me.

answered a question I don't want to sign up for this service if it is ONLY overnight, how do I just do walks?

When you make your profile you can select which services you would like to provide. The options are house sitting, boarding, daycare, drop ins, and walking.

If you just wan to do drops ins and walking then just select those when you create your profile.

answered a question What is the cost for two dogs on a drop in visit?

I believe just the 30 minutes. When we had a sitter do a drop in for our two dogs it was only 30 minutes. As a sitter I would only do 30 minutes.

answered a question Dog sitting at owner's home?

You need to talk to the owner about what their expectations are. Most owners will be totally fine with you leaving for a bit if you need to. You need to find out what they would like you to do with the dog while you are gone, like if the dog needs to be crated or put in a specific area in the house or something like that.

answered a question Should I send condolences to the family?

As a dog owner if this happened to my dog I don't think I would want to hear from you again.

I would try to be understanding and I wouldn't try to hurt your business because accidents happen, but I would also most likely want to cut all ties with you.

Everyone is different though so idk if there is a right or wrong answer here.

answered a question How do I politely ask a client if they would mind requesting more services as per what they asked me to do?

You need to ask them to add drop in visits for the morning and evening visit.

If it is going to be too expensive for you to get to their home then you need to decide if you are willing to accept the booking.

answered a question How do we see what jobs are available around us ?

That's not how this site works. Owners don't actually post a "job", they just contact sitters.

answered a question Drop in visit?

A drop in is 30 minutes: It will include letting the dogs out to go potty/have some play time, and changing water and feed if needed.

A drop in doesn't include a full walk but if there isn't a backyard you will need to take the dog out on leash for potty break.

answered a question what if you prefer taking care of pet at the owners resident ?

You can set up your profile to only offer services at the clients home. Those would be house sitting, drop in visits, and walks.

asked a question Does business slow down when summer ends?

I'm pretty new to rover, only like a month now and in the start I was getting a lot of requests, mostly for weekend boarding. Now it's been like two weeks since anyone has contacted me.

Would summer coming to end have anything to do with this? I do only have weekend availability most weeks due to my job but I was still expecting to get clients for weekends since those are the types of clients I had already been getting.

answered a question How do you deal with a bad review?

You should remove your reply to the review.

The way you chose to respond to them would be enough for me to decline to use you as a sitter. When you start to argue with clients over a poor review it makes you look unprofessional.

answered a question Does anyone bring their child with them on pet visits and dog walks?

As a client I would be 100% against that for my dogs, but i'm sure some clients would be fine with it.

You absolutely need to let them know before they book that your child will be with you, and let them decide how to proceed before setting up the meet and greet.

My dogs don't have enough children exposure for me to be able to feel comfortable with a child being around them without me there with them.

answered a question Expectations for Doggy Day Care?

I try to stay home as much as possible, but if I needed to run to the store or do an errand that would take like an hour or less I would do it.

You need to make sure the dog either has a crate or is trustworthy to be inside alone before you decide to leave them though.

commented answer Should I stop being a boarder for Rover?

If they do leave you a review that mentions what happened then yes I don't think you are going to get clients, but I think you will be fine if they don't leave a bad review.

commented answer Should I stop being a boarder for Rover?

Would they know about the accident? Did the family leave you a poor review? I think you just need to change your dog door policy and always go outside with the dogs.

answered a question Should I stop being a boarder for Rover?

I don't think you stop being a sitter, but I think from now on you should be outside with your boarding dogs at all times.

I don't leash mine after i've showed them the yard on leash but I stay out with them the whole time, and I always walk through my yard before they arrive to check the fence for small holes or anything like that.

I have a dog who gets nervous when we leave her and will try to escape so I would have had to turn you down as a sitter for allowing the dogs to come and go as they please since I wouldn't trust my dog to not try to escape your yard if nobody was watching her.

answered a question What if the client did not provide any supplies?

They should have brought food at the minimum, and treats and toys if they wanted the dog to have them. If you need to buy food for the dog you need to ask them to reimburse you for it. You need to find out what the dog usually eats so he won't get sick from a food switch. Did they mention anything about how much he eats and how often?

answered a question Do you charge differently for housesitting based on time requirements?

I feel like each night should include 24 hours of care. So if they are gone longer then 24 hours per each night they have paid for I would consider charging them for the extra time.

So like if they paid for two nights, left Friday morning and came backSunday morning I would consider that as all include for their two nights, but if they came back Sunday evening I would charge more since they went over their time.

answered a question Accepted stay, but client can't pay. What should I do?

Since they never actually confirmed the stay there is good chance that Rover might say that they aren't actually using their service and won't be able to help you with getting payment.

I think your best bet at this point is to try to treat it like a non Rover job and try to get cash or check from them when they pick up.

answered a question How will the dog walker get into my home?

You will have to give or leave them a key or leave a door open.

It's up to you to figure out how the dog walker will get into your home.

answered a question do they keep dogs separate?

Find someone who doesn't have pets and who will allow your dog to be the only one in the home during the stay.

I don't think some pet owners understand this about rover, but sitters can pretty much do whatever they want. Set their own rates, decide how many dogs they will accept, make vaccine polices, ect. Rover is just here to provide a platform for sitters and owners to connect and to provide support if needed.

So basically you will have to talk to sitters in your area and figure out which ones meet your specific needs.

answered a question Drop-ins without Meet-and-Greets?

I recently hired a sitter to do a drop in for my dogs and we did a meet and greet, my mom and I would have never just let someone come to the house without meeting them first.

I would also insist on a meet and greet before I did a drop in for someone. I wouldn't feel comfortable going to someones home who I had never met before and I would like to meet the dog/s in advance.

answered a question what is required for a sitter to watch my dog while i am away?

It's pretty simple.

First make sure you have added all of your pets to your profile.

Then select the service type, dates, and which animals need service.

To do this you will have to go to sitters profiles to request them. I would suggest asking a few different sitters to make sure you can find one.

Tell them about your care needs and set up a meet and greet before booking.

answered a question Left a sitter a bad review -- now they're getting aggressive?

You can't really leave a bad review and make them seem good at the same time. Nobody is going to care how nice you say they are after they read about the bad experience. The review is still going to hurt their business even though you've said they were nice.

So as long as the review was warranted I would contact rover if the sitter continues to harass you.
