Charging holiday rates?

I recently was asked to sit for a family while they are gone on a Christmas vacation - December 22nd to 29th. They have five total pets; two cats, three dogs. Two of the dogs are "special needs" (One dog requires insulin injections twice daily, so I would not be able to even take part of the day to go home for Christmas, a 1.5 hour drive). I'm struggling to figure out a reasonable price for this kind of stay.

My current holiday rate is $55 per night (usual overnight rate is 40). I charge an extended stay rate of $50 per night for anything over five days. Cats are charged at $25 per night. As it stands, if I stick to JUST this rate, the end cost would be $215 per day. After all is said and done that's $1500 for the week. Am I insane for charging that much? Is that too little? I've never had to deal with this kind of situation before so input would be helpful!

Have they said anything about the cost if not just press book it. I mean people do spend that much what it is the total cost per day for non holiday? All I can say is the dogs will be a lot of work so being it is christmas everywhere charges triple!

Not insane. You are having to give up your holiday to house sit for them since you will be unable to leave. I wouldn't be willing to do that without there being a large payoff for me, and honestly i'm not sure if would take a job that would leave me unable to spend the holidays with my family.

I almost feel like you’re not charging enough personally but then again it’s hard for people to pay more then that. I think the amount is fine and you’re making a big sacrifice for your holiday! Good luck
