I need recommendations on how to stop pet owners from picking up their dogs late in the day/evening?

Pet owners continually pickup their dogs as late in the day as possible, most of the time its evening time. Has anyone come up with a solution to having them pickup buy a certain time? Like noon, or 3pm? Can we charge for later pickup times?

establish this at the meet and greet. They are paying for a24hour period. i have clients that are catching flights so may drop off in the am, but pickup after 5pm, so they happily pay me the $20 late pickup fee I have implemented. I also text a few days before the drop off to confirm.

Boarding's "per night" fee is good for up to 24 hours of care.

If a dog is dropped off at 10 am on one day, then they need to be picked up by 10 am on the last day. However, if you allow dogs to be dropped off in the evening, then pickup would also be in the evening,. I do allow a little leeway, like 2 hours or so.

All you need to do is find out the owner's dropoff and pickup times before accepting the booking. Then you can adjust it for overtime.

If, however, you want to establish different rules about dropoff and pickup times, like saying that pets can only be dropped over between x hour and x hour, with pickup only between x hour and x hour, then you need to specify it in your profile and make sure the customer knows. Don't assume they will read your profile.

Hello! I would tell them I follow the "daycare" policy. Drop off is from 8am-9am and pick up is from 5pm-6pm (or whatever time you agree upon). If you are late - no matter what the situation may be (I am human and have acknowledge a situation or two that was out of the parents control) - you are charged an additional $5 per 30 minutes you are late. I have some people who would pay an extra $20 just so they could go to the grocery store alone. I know I watched kids but the policy worked well.

Great answer Karen! And no, many clients do not read the profiles so make sure all your deal breakers are discussed prior to booking. I have found that most times, if you make your client aware of something, they are very nice about not taking advantage and are very understanding as well as appreciate your clarity.

For clients that want to pick up their dog more than 2 hours pass the 24h boarding booking period, you should make a booking for a daycare day so the Rover insurance remains in place until the dog is picked up since the Rover insurance only covers a 24h period on a boarding booking. You can charge as much or as little as you want, I go on a case by case basis looking at things like the total length of the booking, repeat client, etc
