Does Anyone Else Give Clients Thank-You Notes?

After each stay, I give each client a handwritten thank you note. Clients really enjoy them, and I think it adds a personal touch.

Does anyone else do something like this, and if so, have your clients reacted positively?

Namasté, No, It is up to the sitter to do whatever they would like as it is their own business an they set their rules. As of now that I only have a few requests an only had one stay, I do not give Thank You notes. When my business grows I will do so too. Namasté, Marcus

I always write a hand written thank you card on a dog themed greeting card. I also just started recently giving them dog toothbrush and toothpaste in a little goodie bag with instructions on brushing their dogs teeth. I’m a dental assistant so it’s a fun little way to tie in both of my passions.

I do the first time they visit.

I give each client a printed photo of their dog with a link to my Rover site (have a look at my profile). So far my clients have been impressed, i imagine that's because most people don't print their photo anymore.

If they stick that picture on their fridge, it is a good way to advertise my business, not only as a reminder to the dogs owner about my business, but also to their friends who happen to see the picture (no doubt it will generate a conversation).

Honestly, I think the clients should be giving ME a thank you note of taking care of their dog. :)

Felix, I love the printed pictures that you create! How do you get the QR code scan on there and the Rover icon? I'd love to do something like this for my clients! Thank you!

Hi Rachel, you can generate the codes from free web sites, then I google for the Rover logo (which I am not supposed to do, but hey I am promoting their business too).. then I use a free program called Paint.net and put everything together. Once I got the template set up, I just add the dog pics.

What a great idea, thank you. I just booked my first "drop by/feed/walk/love/repeat" client for tomorrow night and the next AM. Navy here in Norfolk, so I wanted a quick way to say thank you. I always take pictures anyway so I can't wait to leave one with a note. THANK YOU!

I will leave thank you notes when I do drop-in visits, or at the end of a stint of dog walking (a week of every day walking, for example). I usually only do thank you notes if it is for a first time client. It's a nice way to be able to wrap up the visit and tell them how much you enjoyed getting to know their pup! I also really like being able to leave the note in their home with the drop-in visits or house sitting, because it's something for the owner to see as soon as they return home, instead of returning and having that "I wonder if the sitter came today!" moment. I'm a BIG picture and update sender throughout the stay, but the value of a handwritten note is huge!

I do. Plus I usually give them a framed picture of their pet. I buy $1 frames and usually get some credit for free prints on various website :) Owners love it!

I used to give them a report card. Of course, they reacted positively..but there wasn't a huge difference. I guess it was because I already sent them many photos before then.

I always leave a note at the end of each stay, and I end each one with a Thanks!

I usually leave a note even though I've been texting updates throughout. I use the handwritten note as a personal touch and I always include the request for a review on http://Rover.com if they were happy with my care. Seems to be working!

Yes, when I was first getting started I'd leave a hand written thank you on a piece of paper. It did get the owners to respond positively. I also upgraded my Iphone and took some fun artsy photos of their pets in portrait mode and left a print alongside the note. I printed them off at Costco and though the owners might really enjoy it :) totally up to you though.

I always leave a handwritten Thank You Note for my First Time Clients. I get a big Thank You and a rebooking it is well worth your extra time.

I will typically leave a handwritten "thank you" note at the end of the clients first stay, but once they become a repeat client I usually don't. I usually am texting/messaging with them at the end of the stay anyway - confirming their return time and arrival back home, so leaving a note is usually feels just a little redundant. As Stella R. said, it doesn't really seem to make a huge difference either way. Ultimately, they usually just care about coming home to their pets and house well cared for.
