Where do you advertise yourself?

Just wanted to see if we could start a dialogue about how y'all advertise yourselves? How? Where? What? :)

I made some posters with tear-away tabs and plan to see if I can post them at my local recreation center, pet shops, vet offices. I have also posted on CL regularly and Nextdoor also in some local "mom" groups on Facebook. My business cards are coming in, and I plan to send a few with clients when they pick up their dogs/hand them out wherever I can!

All great ideas. Some pet stores have boards, don't forget groomers. If you work out of the home, find bulletin boards and give a bunch to co-workers that have dogs or know others with dogs. I don't do Facebook, but a friend helped me set up a FB business page

Like you, I also post my services weekly on Craigslist. I have business cards that I have passed out at dog friendly places when I find owners, such as my local Half Price Books store or sometimes when owners have their dog at the car dealership I go to. Just this week I overheard an employee at Target talking about feeling like she always has to stay home because her dog hates going to the kennel, and I was able to briefly speak with her and give her a business card, also! I received my first client when I joined Rover by posting on my personal FaceBook and I now also have posted on a couple of local garage sale sites that I am a member of on FB, too. I ordered the car magnets and am looking forward to using those in the near future!

Did you order the car magnets thru Rover? Wondering about their quality and how strong they are. When they arrive will you please post?

I also make flyers with tear-off tags and post them at local grocery store boards, pet food/supply stores, and local restaurant boards. I've handed out business cards at local vet clinics and pet groomers. I had postcards made from Vistaprint because Rover's, although nice, are not as customize-able as I would like. I put the post cards in the newspaper boxes or on the front doors of the homes with barking dogs in them while I'm out walking current client dogs. I don't post on Craigslist because it seems to be a problem for other sitters. I do post on Facebook - my local county's buy/sell/trade pages. I have received clients from all of my efforts - although I would like more!

How well do you think the tear off at grocery store board work? I was thinking of doing the same as well as at the near by dog park.

I've gotten a few clients (over a several month span), but I have to replenish the flyer because people are taking the tear offs....so I'm thinking now that it's June, I might be getting requests from those people.

Great Tips!

I did Vistaprint business cards also and always have a stash with me. When I'm at the pet store and people are walking in/out with their dogs, I say hi and hand them a card. Everyone's very interested. I'm new to Rover, so I don't know if this is bringing in business, but worth it.

I've also put cards on the windshields when I see dogs in a car in the parking lot somewhere.

I haven't had any response from Craiglist or Nextdoor via posts. I have had a neighbor respond to me on Nextdoor but not from my post. I "welcomed" her when she joined and she saw I did dog sitting. So, in that way, it was helpful. I'm going to try Mary's suggestion since it sounds like that could be helpful.

When I welcome anyone to Nextdoor -- I say something like "Welcome to our neighborhood! By the way, I'm a sitter on http://Rover.com, if you have dogs and the need for a loving/caring sitter check me out at [my url code]". Good luck!
