It’s earlier than you might think!

The busy festive season sees a huge surge in demand for pet care, from dog boarding to pet sitting, drop-in visits, and dog walking. At the same time, it’s often a harder time to call in favours from friends and family.

Luckily, Rover is home to a caring community of pet sitters and dog walkers—making it easy to find a loving sitter near you. So when’s the best time to book? We’ve crunched the numbers to help guide you in your search for pet care during the holidays.

Prime booking window for holiday pet care

Generally speaking, the prime booking window for pet sitting or dog boarding is 4 – 6 weeks before your travel date. Starting early gives you the best chance of finding a sitter who’s available on your selected dates. It also gives you time to meet the sitter and make sure he or she is a good fit for you and your dog.

Some of the most popular sitters on Rover get requests several months before the Christmas holidays! This period is the busiest time of year for sitters and dog walkers on Rover. Book as early as you can to make sure you’re a step ahead of the rest.

The bottom line

Book early to lock in your preferred sitter, and you can hit the road happy. But don’t worry—Rover has so many sitters in their network, you should be able to find someone even if you wait.
