For dog owners in London who live south of the river, there’s much more to do than play in parks and enjoy walks along the river! Forget leaving your dog at home each time you fancy a pint, with this selection of top South-East London dog-friendly pubs. 1. The Woolpack
Address & Map: 98 Bermondsey Street, SE1 3UB
A day out at The Woolpack involves extra warm welcomes for dog-accompanied guests, a fantastic atmosphere, and delicious pub grub. Whether you’re starting your day perusing the Sunday papers and the breakfast menu, or ending it with a post-work pint, your furry best friend is always welcome. The pub dog Frugo the Beagle keeps an eye on everyone and the pub’s “Dog House” includes fresh water, dog bowls, and doggy-treat dispensers aplenty. No areas are off limits for hounds and the spacious beer garden is a favourite with dogs who need to let off steam. On sunnier days there are awnings for shade and on cooler ones, you can snuggle up with a heater and blanket to keep warm. When you’re ready to stretch your legs, pop over to Tanner Street Park or Leathermarket Gardens which are both within walking distance.
2. Simon the Tanner

Simon the Tanner is a super dog-friendly pub located just around the corner from the hustle and bustle of Bermondsey Street. Dogs are made a fuss of by the staff, with water bowls and treats appearing without you having to ask. Owners can eat with dogs inside and the pub is famous for both dog-owning and dog-free customers dining in harmony. The food and drink selection here is thoughtful, with plenty of interesting beers to pique your palate and ale-laced nachos and wings to soak it all up with. If pub quizzes are your thing, head down for the weekly Tuesday tournament. There isn’t an outdoor space but nearby there are Tanner Street Park and Leathermarket Gardens which are perfect for some ball-throwing fun.
3. Dial Arch

Looking for a stop off after a walk along the Thames? Then set your sights on the comfy sofas and perfect outdoor lounging of Dial Arch. This pub is as great a find for dogs as it is for their human counterparts. Canines can expect water bowls on request, doggy toys to play with, and even some dog biscuit treats from the staff. Dogs aren’t allowed in the restaurant area, but with plenty of space in the bar, side rooms and outside, there are several great spots to choose from. Due to its perfect positioning in the heart of the Royal Arsenal, parking isn’t available but heading in after a long walk by the Thames or Wellington Park comes highly recommended.
4. The Cutty Sark

The staff at The Cutty Sark firmly believe that dogs play an important part in pub-culture, making it a top dog-friendly spot sat on the banks of the Thames. The river has widened so much here that your dog could be forgiven for thinking he’s had a day at the seaside. Dogs are allowed inside in the downstairs area or with you on one of the large number of outdoor tables overlooking the river. There is a road nearby, so leads are recommended. Feel free to bring a blanket for your dog and the staff will happily take care of a water bowl for you. The perfect spot before or after a walk along the river or a stroll through nearby Greenwich Park. If you want to invite other dogs from further afield, the pub also has a carpark. For those who would rather dine dog-free, there are two human-only floors that offer unparalleled views of South-East London.
5. The Three Stags
Address & Map: 67-69 Kennington Road, SE1 7PZ
After a long walk along the South Bank, dogs and humans alike will appreciate The Three Stags and one of their thirst-quenching beverages. Canine companions can enjoy water bowls, treats and even the odd sausage or two if they’re lucky. With its old-style-pub feel, dog owners can enjoy good conversation and fresh food made with locally sourced produce. Wood-fired ovens get the taste buds tingling and for drinks there’s everything from beers and wines to lagers. There’s no area that’s off-limit to dogs so let him wander and make friends with the locals, furry or not. If you’re lucky, you’ll get “Chaplin’s Corner” which is a snug bar with room for the whole family, including a dog or two.
6. Hare and Billet

After a bracing stride through Blackheath, Hare and Billet is the perfect pitstop for your and your dog. Owners and their dogs love the atmosphere here, where patrons can revive the lost art of conversation. The friendly staff offer water bowls without being asked and love engaging with any waggy tailed visitors. Dogs are allowed in the pub area at all times, which is great as there’s an array of pub-grub classics you’ll want to taste test. Here you can play games such as KerPlunk or relax to an acoustic music night while your dog warms himself by the open fire. There’s no outside seating but there are plastic glasses to take drinks with you back to the Heath on summer afternoons. For those who would rather dine dog-free, there’s a separate dining area near the back of the pub where dogs aren’t allowed.
7. The Wood House

Come rain or shine, wet or dry, dogs are welcomed with open arms at The Woodhouse. The staff love dogs as much as the punters and owners are firmly encourage to bring their pets along for a visit. As well as a cosy indoor space where dogs are welcome, they have a recently renovated garden space—it’s vast in size and a wonderful place to enjoy classic British dishes with your dog by your side. Most important is The Wood House’s pedigree location. Next to Sydenham Woods and slap bang in the centre of the Green Chain Walk, between Crystal Palace and Nunhead Cemetery, so there’s plenty of sniffing spots to enjoy nearby. 8. The Rosendale

In leafy West Dulwich dog-friendly haven The Rosendale knows how to lure in dogs and their owners. Expect a welcoming bowl of water and some dog biscuits for your canine companion to feast on, while you enjoy a artisanal pizza or free-range chicken dish. If there are any dog-friendly leftovers, the staff will be happy to box them for you. Not only are dogs allowed inside, but you’ll have three gardens to choose from. The summer garden is secluded and beautiful; perfect for lazing in the sun. Plus, for those who have dogs and kids to occupy, the summer garden hosts a full size climbing frame and Wendy house. The terrace is perfect for bigger parties (and bigger breeds!) and the side garden offers alfresco dining away from the children’s area for dogs who may be more nervous. Whether you’re visiting for breakfast, coffee, brunch or lunch, break up the day with 25-minute walk over to Brockwell Park.
9. Bridge House

Dog owners might wish there were more dog-friendly pubs like Bridge House where dogs are welcome not only in the spacious pub garden but inside the pub as well. There are a few doggy water bowls on offer and free dog biscuits on the bar are a nice touch. Bridge House is located on the Thicket Road entrance to Crystal Palace park. Handy if you’re looking for a long weekend walk, and you certainly wouldn’t be disappointed to wander out of the park and into the pub. Offers for owners include Saturday morning brunch, a selection of hot drinks from mulled cider to hot chocolate, and a covetable dessert menu.
