Fancy taking a hike through the woodland? Chasing bunnies through the meadows? A game of frisbee with panoramic view of the city? We know your best little mate wouldn’t say no! One of the great things about UK cities is you’re never far away from some greenery – and Birmingham is no exception. Here are our top picks of dog-friendly parks in Birmingham that you and your pooch are sure to love.

1. Woodgate Valley Country Park

A superb spot for chasing butterflies through luscious green meadows, Woodgate Valley Country Park is a lovely local nature reserve boasting a variety of flora and fauna. The park extends for 450 acres giving your dog plenty of space to run, sniff and explore.

For the keen botanists out there, you’ll have the opportunity to enjoy over 250 species of plants here. The meadows are also particularly beautiful in the spring and summer, with the perfect damp conditions producing a display of stunning wildflowers. You can also spot over 90 species of birds at Woodgate Valley, so be sure to bring your binoculars too!

2. Cannon Hill Park

Cannon Hill Park has an abundance of well-maintained walkways and trails that are perfect for taking your dog on a morning run or afternoon stroll. Be aware that in some areas you’ll have to keep you little mate on the lead – but there are other spaces where he can have a good run around too.

The park features a boating lake, a fun park for the kids, mini-golf, a miniature train tour, sports facilities and is home to the MAC Birmingham cultural centre. Unfortunately, your dog can’t join you at all of these attractions, so be sure to check before your visit.

If you’re feeling active, you can also sign up to Birmingham’s Dog Jog, which takes place at Cannon Hill Park in August. Whether you’re looking to raise money for your favourite doggy charity, make friends with local pup parents or get fit with your best bud, you’re sure to have a pawesome time! 3. Waseley Hills Country Park

Looking for the perfect picnic spot? Grab a blanket and a hamper and take a trip to Waseley Hills, where you and your dog can picnic under shady trees or atop the hill with a beautiful panoramic view. If you’d prefer a short stroll there’s the Skylark Trail, stretching a leisurely half mile, and for longer walks why not take the Rabbit Trail which will take you on a three-mile adventure around the park.

Don’t forget to pop in to the park’s Windmill Cafe for some delectable dog-friendly treats. You can get your pal a special doggy sausage or even a nice cool ice cream for those hot summer days. And there are plenty of sweet treats for you to try too. For special occasions, you can also hire out the large BBQ from the cafe – ideal for Fido’s Birthday party with enough space to invite all his chums! Check out our guide to the top Dog-Friendly Cafes in Birmingham for more info.

4. Lickey Hills Country Park

Is your dog a major history buff? No? Didn’t think so. But that doesn’t mean they won’t enjoy a trip to the castle at Lickey Hills Country Park. The castle stands on Beacon Hill, almost 300 metres above sea level, and provides a gorgeous bird’s eye view of the city.

The Green Flag park is also home to a wide variety of habitats across its 524 acres – including woodland, heathland and grassland – giving you and your dog the opportunity to spot all kinds of wildlife, from rabbits to robins. If you want to get out of the city and immerse yourself in nature, you can’t go wrong here. Bring along a thermos of tea and some doggy treats and you’ll be able to ramble around Lickey Hills for hours, enjoying the peaceful countryside.

5. Moseley Park and Pool

Originally part of the Moseley Hall estate gardens, Moseley Park and Pool is now maintained by a charitable trust. You can get free access to the park as a day visitor with a refundable £10 deposit at Moseley Travel – just a three-minute walk from the park on Alcester Road. They also have an annual membership scheme in place, where you get your own electronic key to the park and visit whenever you fancy, starting from £40 a year.

The 300-year old park was originally designed by the famous landscape gardener Humphrey Repton and the trust ensures that the park will remain a natural haven for years to come. As a top dog walking destination, the park has recently installed a new compostable dog waste bin and dispensers with compostable dog bags so you can be kind to the environment while out on your walkies. Every year, the park is also home to the Moseley Folk and Arts Festival, and Moseley Jazz Funk and Soul – unfortunately these events aren’t suitable for dogs, but if you fancy spending the weekend listening to live music we’ve got you covered with local dog sitters at Rover.com.

With all these new parks to explore with your dog, we’re sure you’re going to be spending lots of quality time together. But when you can’t be around to give your little fella all the love and attention he needs, Rover.com can help. Book a local dog sitter in Birmingham who will treat your dog just like family.
