I entrusted this man with my dog, Duke, after being told he was an experienced dog trainer who knew how to properly care for animals. Duke was my baby, my first and only dog, and he was perfectly healthy when I dropped him off. Less than four hours later, I received the most horrifying phone call of my life. I was told that Duke was in critical condition and that his organs were failing. Shortly afterward, my beloved dog was gone. No pet owner should ever have to experience something like this. I left my healthy dog in someone’s care and within hours he was dead. I still cannot comprehend how a dog can go from healthy and full of life to dying in such a short amount of time. The explanation I’ve been given does not sit right with me, and I am seeking answers. My family deserves answers. Most importantly, Duke deserves answers. This was the first time I had ever trusted someone outside of family to watch him, and it ended in the worst possible tragedy. Instead of bringing my best friend home, I am planning his cremation and mourning a loss that never should have happened.
