Pet care experience

Experienced Vet Nurse & Pet Carer

Animals have always been a huge part of my life, and I have grown up with dogs throughout my life. I worked as a veterinary nurse in Harrogate for 11 years, gaining extensive experience caring for dogs, cats and a wide variety of animals with different needs and personalities. After leaving veterinary practice, I ran my own dog walking and pet sitting business in the Little Ouseburn area, caring for dogs, cats, horses, chickens and sheep. This gave me valuable experience providing reliable, loving care for pets in their own homes as well as exercising and socialising dogs of all ages and temperaments. I now live in Boroughbridge with my own dog, Jimmy, a friendly Border Collie-Labrador cross, and Skiddy, my much-loved 19-year-old cat. As a pet owner myself, I understand how important it is to find someone trustworthy who will care for your pets as if they were their own. I offer a safe, welcoming home environment where your dog will receive plenty of attention, companionship and care. Whether your dog is energetic, elderly, nervous or simply enjoys a cosy place to relax, I will do my best to make them feel comfortable, happy and secure during their stay.

Michelle has walked and cared for my dogs for 8.5 years, and won over our Romanian rescue very quickly which was incredible! She is super caring, trustworthy and fun. The dogs are always excited to see her and have a great time. They can be a handful, but she manages them well and is always patient, calm and understanding with their needs. Being a former veterinary nurse as well, they couldn't be in better hands. I would recommend Michelle to anyone - and will continue to go back.

Michelle walked my two dogs for a number of years. She was completely reliable, caring and would always go above and beyond to make sure the dogs were happy, safe and well looked after. The welfare of the dogs is her absolute priority and we had complete peace of mind knowing our dogs were in such kind and capable hands. A truly fantastic dog walker!

Schedule

I work primarily from home in the wellness industry, so I am around for most of the day and can provide plenty of company and supervision. I live in the centre of Boroughbridge with my 11-year-old daughter, who is kind, gentle and very comfortable around animals, having grown up with pets. My own dog, Jimmy, enjoys at least two walks a day, with additional playtime and ball games when possible. Dogs staying with us will be treated as part of the family and included in our daily routine. We enjoy regular walks, plenty of attention and a relaxed home environment. Aside from occasional gym visits and appointments, I am generally at home, allowing me to provide a consistent and caring environment for visiting dogs.

Safety, trust & environment

I want any dog staying with me to feel safe, relaxed and very much at home. I have my own two-year-old dog, Jimmy, who is very much part of the family (and yes, dogs are allowed on the sofa!), and I have a safe, private garden. I would generally only board one dog at a time, so they would get plenty of individual attention and I would always want to make sure they were comfortable with Jimmy before a stay. I try to follow each dog’s usual routine as closely as possible, including feeding, walks, sleeping arrangements and any medication or individual needs. I’m at home a lot, so dogs staying with me would have plenty of company and wouldn’t routinely be left for long periods. Having worked as a veterinary nurse for 11 years and then as a professional dog walker for 9 years, I’m very experienced with dogs of different breeds, ages and temperaments. I’m comfortable administering medication where required and am used to recognising changes in a dog’s behaviour or wellbeing. On walks, dogs would be kept safely on a lead unless specifically agreed otherwise with their owner, and I would always follow any instructions regarding recall, other dogs, livestock or anything their dog may find difficult. For home visits and pet sitting, I would treat both the animal and the owner’s home with the same care and respect I would expect for my own, following their instructions closely and making sure pets are safe and settled before I leave. Above all, I want owners to feel completely comfortable leaving their pet with me and to know they’ll be cared for with plenty of attention, affection and common sense.
