This was an extremely disappointing and stressful experience from start to finish, especially as this was our first time working with this sitter. We have used multiple boarders, including other Rover sitters, and have never had to ask for updates or question the level of communication like this. The stay started off on the wrong foot due to an incorrect address listed on her profile, which was approximately 15 minutes from her actual location. This required additional time and coordination on our end, as we were only provided the correct address after arrival. Our trip was 10 days, and we repeatedly went 2–3 days at a time without any updates unless we reached out first. After one of these gaps, we expressed concern about the lack of communication, and only then did we receive an update with photos. When we checked in, we were told she was “too busy” and that she “doesn’t typically provide daily updates,” which was never communicated prior to booking and made us feel uncomfortable even asking about our own dog. Aside from that one update after we raised concern, communication remained minimal. It became clear that updates would not be provided unless we initiated contact, which is not what we have experienced with other sitters and is not what we expect when our pet is in someone else’s care. Pickup was scheduled for a 3–4 PM window. Earlier in the day, we proactively communicated that we might be slightly delayed due to traffic, and were told this was “no problem” and to just keep her updated. However, when we later provided an updated arrival time of 8 PM, we were told that was too late. We immediately offered an earlier alternative with a family member picking up at 6 PM, but were then told she would not be home. Despite providing multiple reasonable options, we were then pushed to pick up the following morning, with no clear explanation of when pickup would actually be possible. This also raised concerns about consistency in supervision and availability during that time. The situation escalated to the point where Rover support had to be involved in order for us to retrieve our dog. At pickup, the interaction was chaotic and unprofessional, including raised voices and our belongings being handled roughly to the point that we had to ask that items not be thrown on the ground. We were also given no meaningful update about our dog’s stay. Overall, the lack of consistent communication, disorganization, shifting expectations, and difficulty retrieving our dog made this a very concerning experience. We would not use this sitter again and would not recommend her to others.
