Availability

My schedule is open and flexible to be as available as possible. For extended walks I tend to prefer unpaved trails (both for my own joints, and for pooch pads!), so I try to organize long walks around the weather if possible to avoid muddy shoes and muddy pups! That's ideal though, obviously oftentimes needs are more dictated by when the people will be working, away, etc., and the dog(s) need attention and exercise!

Information Jeffrey B. would like to know about your pet

The more information the better, of course. Preferences, obviously dietary/treat restrictions, any behaviors (especially bad ones) to be aware of or vigilant about, potential triggers, etc. If you use certain verbal or hand signals with your dog other than the extremely common ones, it's great to know a dog's vocabulary for more effective communication!

A typical day

One of the reasons I've managed to average 140+ miles per month in recent years is the discovery of a network of fantastic trails through various woods from my home to and around Lake Needwood or Lake Frank. The 10 or 11 mile versions take me around 3-3.5 hours and the 15 miler 4.5 hours. If you have a high energy dog with an unlimited appetite for exercise (and you don't have that level of desire, time, or ability) then let's definitely work something out!

Pet care experience

Just to add a clarification- my rate is actually for a FULL HOUR visit/walk, you may notice that the standard walk on Rover is 30 minutes and then there's a surcharge for the full hour (my rate starts out higher but my "surcharge" for the full hour is zero! So everyone gets a full hour...) Just wanted to point that out, since it isn't necessarily obvious and has occasionally led to confusion. And now, back to my intro... I was born into a "German Shepherd Family", and grew up helping to take care of and walk male, in-tact Shepherds (somewhat alpha/territorial type dogs) since when they actually outweighed me! Now at 6' 1" and 214 pounds there isn't a breed giant enough that I can't handle. I'm a huge fan of Dane/Mastiff/Molosser sized dogs, and have worked with "challenging" dogs, multiple dogs that are a handful, etc. (though in fairness, I also love smaller, and easier dogs too! :-) Since 2014 I've raised and trained service dogs for blind people and veterans. Branched out from there into dog training, walking, and sitting. I've learned under master Karen Pryor trainers and believe in positive reinforcement training and practices backed by all the latest research. Have been doing a lot of walking myself since the pandemic, 1400-1800 miles a year, and since young service puppies can't log much mileage (and Shepherd slowed down considerably in his later years, before sadly having to be put down) I put myself on here to see if anyone with a high energy dog(s) (which can in fact be the root of a lot of behavioral issues or problems if not constructively burned off!) could benefit from an experienced hand who is also happy to wrack up the 3, 5, 10, or even 15 milers to keep those pups happy and healthy! Of course, every dog has different needs, fitness, ability, etc., and would always want to make sure they were ready for extended walks or built up before throwing them into anything too quickly! That said, I'm happy to work with any type of dog, with any type of endurance, needs, etc. I love all dogs, am extremely responsible and respectful, and happy to work with anyone. Happy to answer any and all questions, available for consultation, training, walking, and sitting services for any and all dogs!
