Safety, trust & environment

I live with three cats, all of whom are very vocal and fill my days listening to many kitty demands for attention, playtime, more treats (always—hard to resist sometimes!), and an earlier dinner time. I find a lot of joy spending time with each of their personalities, whether it’s sunning on the line furniture outside with Harry, taking Gus for supervised explorations around the backyard in his harness, or giving in to Valentine’s demand that her puzzle box be refilled with treats. In your home, I will follow whatever guidance you offer for your pets’ wellbeing based on their routines, behavior, and personality. I believe in sticking to the schedule they’re used to, as this will offer them continuity and stability even when they’re missing their family! Ideally, I like to schedule an in-person meeting prior to the start of my stay or first visit so we can go over your pets’ needs and any questions you might have. While I’m in your home, I will care for it as if it were my own. You can relax while you’re away knowing I am looking out for your furry family and your home.

Information Debra D. would like to know about your pet

For all in-house stays, I want to set up a pre-stay meeting where we can discuss your pets’ needs, find out their routine and favorite spots in the house (especially important for shy kitties that hide), learn anything I need to know about your home, and gather all emergency contact information. For daily or one time visits, the above is ideal but not required. I will need to know your pet’s routine and typical behavior/activity level, where any equipment (leashes/harness/etc) or toys needed are, feeding directions if required, access information to the property, and emergency contacts for you and your veterinarian.

A typical day

For all pets, routine is key! In our pre-stay meeting, we will talk about not only their daily care routine (food, water, meds, etc.) but also what kind of activities they like best! Do you have a playful dog that loves a long meandering walk to check out all the sights and smells? Done! What about a shy kitty that might only come out from under the couch if I’m quiet and gently shake their favorite feather wand toy? You got it! Does bunny like to take a stroll in the stroller? No problem. I tailor daily activities to your pet’s activity level and interests. I find great joy in a happy pet!

Debra has been a godsend for us when we vacation. I’m super anxious to leave our furbabies, and I can’t relax unless I know they’re in good hands. A couple weeks before our last big international trip, one of our cats, Valentine, had a medical emergency and needed to be on two medications for a month. I was worried, but I knew that Debra would be able to administer the medications without issue. Very happy to say that Valentine has recovered thanks to Debra’s loving care. If we didn’t know that Debra was going to care for Valentine, I would have stayed home. Debra is one of the few people that I trust with caring for my cats and my house.
