Pet care experience

Purple's Pet Care

What sets me apart is how personal I make the care. I don’t just look after pets — I take the time to really understand them and treat them like family. I’ve fostered and raised three puppies at the same time from a young age, so I know how to handle different personalities, keep them happy and safe, and help them learn the basics with patience (and plenty of treats!). I’ve also cared for senior dogs and even a blind dog, where it’s all about being gentle, calm, and consistent so they feel safe and secure. On the other end, I’ve worked with cats rescued from hoarding situations — some were extremely nervous and shut down at first. It took time, trust-building, and lots of patience to help them feel safe enough to come out of their shells. It’s one of the most rewarding parts of what I do. Every animal is different, so I always tailor my care to suit their needs — whether that’s sticking to routines, reinforcing training, giving space and reassurance, or just spending time with them in a way they enjoy. I genuinely love what I do, and I think pets can feel that.

We couldn’t have asked for a better sitter for our Bernese Mountain Dog pup! Daria took such wonderful care of her – making sure she was well-fed, walked, and even teaching her new tricks. She regularly sent us updates and photos, which gave us so much peace of mind, and our pup always looked so happy and relaxed. She went above and beyond in every way: helping our puppy socialize with other dogs, brushing and bathing her before our return, and even clipping her nails when she noticed they were getting long. During the heat, she was so thoughtful and caring – providing a cooling mat and refreshing ice water to keep her comfortable. It was clear from the start that our pup felt completely at home with her, and we are so grateful for the love and attention she provided. Highly recommend to anyone looking for a truly caring, reliable, and attentive dog sitter!

Schedule

Pet care fits into my daily and weekly routine really naturally — it’s something I love and build my days around. As a student, I have a flexible schedule, especially during the summer when I’m fully available. Even during the academic year, I have three full days off and my classes usually run between 9am and 2pm, so I still have plenty of time to give pets the attention they deserve. I structure my days to include at least three meaningful sessions with the animals I’m caring for. For dogs, that usually means three solid walks — often around an hour each — spaced throughout the day to give them exercise, stimulation, and structure. With cats, I’ll spend time on interactive play like hunting-style games for 20 minutes or so, spread across the day, plus plenty of cuddles and enrichment. I also love working on training and usually fit in short sessions before feeding times, which helps with focus and reinforces positive behaviour. Caring for animals isn’t something I squeeze into my schedule — it is the schedule. I’m committed to giving every pet in my care the time, energy, and attention they need to feel happy, safe, and loved.

Safety, trust & environment

Whether I’m looking after your pet in your home or mine, I do everything I can to make them feel safe, comfortable, and truly cared for. When pets stay **in my home**, I give them their own space — usually a crate or cosy corner with their blankets and toys — that they can treat as their personal room. It’s a quiet, comfy area they can retreat to anytime they want to rest or take a break, but it’s never forced. I make sure their day is full of enrichment, play, affection, and rest, all balanced to suit their personality and energy level. When we head out for **walks**, safety comes first. I avoid unnecessary contact with other dogs and always bring plenty of fresh water to keep them hydrated, especially in warmer weather. I tailor the length and pace of the walk to your dog’s age, breed, and needs. In **your home**, I aim to keep their routine as consistent as possible — from feeding schedules and walking times to their favourite toys and nap spots. I leave everything just as I found it, and most importantly, your pet feels secure in their own environment. To give you peace of mind, I send regular daily updates with pictures, little notes about our day or concerns to keep you in the loop and give you a piece of mind

Pets

A typical day

When I care for pets, I like to make sure their days are full of enrichment, fun, and fulfillment. For dogs, I aim to meet three key needs: physical, mental, and breed-specific stimulation. That might look like a nice long walk or run, a good game of fetch, followed by a bit of training or a slow feeder session to keep their brains working. I also love to include activities that tap into what your dog was bred to do — for example, letting a Border Collie “herd” big balls or a retriever do what they love most: retrieve! For cats, it’s all about encouraging natural hunting behaviors in a safe and playful way. I plan multiple short “hunts” throughout the day using everything from feather wands to balls and even puzzle toys to really get their instincts and minds engaged. Whether it's a playful pounce or a moment of puzzle-solving, I love seeing animals light up doing what they enjoy most.

Before I look after any pet, I always like to gather as much info as possible to make sure they feel safe, comfortable, and at home with me. It’s really helpful to know their daily routine — when they wake up, eat, exercise, nap, and go to bed — so I can stick to what they’re used to. For mealtimes, I’ll need to know how much they eat, how often, and if their food is prepared a specific way (like adding water to dry food, mixing in raw, using supplements like salmon oil, etc.). I also love continuing any training or reinforcing commands, so let me know what you're currently working on. It’s super important for me to understand your pet’s temperament — how they react to other dogs, cats, and strangers. I’d love to know their favourite toys and games, and if they have any breed-specific needs (like herding balls for collies or scent games for hounds), I’m more than happy to include those. If your pet has any medical needs, sensitivities, or places they don’t like being touched — or if they can be a little growly or nippy in certain situations — I definitely want to know ahead of time. Same goes for things like if they ever have accidents in the house or if they’re known to chew cables or furniture, so I can keep them safe and avoid any mishaps. The more I know, the better I can tailor my care to your pet — just like they’d get at home!
