commented answer Has the Rover fee increased?

Interesting how the booking fee has a cap at $25, but the 20% fee that is taken from us providers has no cap.

answered a question Is anyone doing Rover Now??

I'm in Los Angeles and even here on-demand walking requests are scant. Wag! dominates the on-demand market.

asked a question Drop-in visits showing as unavailable in profile?

Hi all,

Currently drop-in visits are showing as unavailable in my profile calendar even though I marked myself as being available. Does anyone have any insight into what might be going on?

Thanks!

Edit: It seems to be the case for some of the other sitters in my area as well.

answered a question How to handle client keys?

It is definitely an inconvenience, but I don't charge for this as my service radius is quite small. If it involved more than a fifteen minute drive each way I would definitely consider charging an additional fee. For future bookings I politely suggest a lock box.

answered a question A prospective client is saying they can't find me on rover, what do I do? ?????????

You've probably sorted it out by now but in case someone else has the same issue: You can send them your direct profile link. You will find the link in the Dashboard section under "Earn More, Play More". If you are using the app you will find the link in the More section under SITTING and "Promote your business".

answered a question When looking at the rates for Drop in visits, is the rate per animal?

Every sitter sets their own policies. Ask your chosen sitter about their policy regarding multiple pets.

answered a question Does raising my nightly rate affect my existing bookings? I assume not but haven't tried yet?

The bookings that have already been confirmed by both parties will not be affected.

answered a question What is the best approach to correcting a terrier who insists on "protecting me" from my husband?

This is how I would approach this issue:

To start with, I would not allow the dog in the bedroom, bathroom, loft, and other areas where the aggressive behavior occurs. After a while, the dog can enter those areas upon invitation only. Reward him with something that you know he really values when he acts in a desirable manner (i.e. shows no aggression toward your husband). The reward can be a treat, attention, or his favorite toy, for example.

As soon as he exhibits aggressive behavior toward your husband, you walk out of the room and ignore the dog completely. Return only after he stops the aggressive behavior. After a few rounds of this he will likely understand that bad behavior will result in you, not your husband, leaving. In other words, he will not get the outcome he is hoping for, but rather the opposite.

If you are not already, I strongly recommend to have him work for all valuable resources - food, toys, playtime, and anything else he enjoys. Reward him with these only when he is behaving well. Have him sit for his meals, when handing him a toy, and any other time when he wants something. Once he sits give him his food/toy/attention/treat along with verbal praise.

Once he realizes that he can get what he wants by following the rules he will look to you for guidance in most situations, knowing that by playing by the rules he will get what he wants (most of the time).

I hope this answer gave you some ideas on how to deal with this issue. If you feel like nothing is working it's always a good idea to consult with a trainer.

Good luck!

answered a question Is dog walking included in the price for overnight or day dog care?

The answer may be different from one sitter to the next. Ask your sitter for the details regarding what the service you are interested in includes.

I think I got that same exact request.

answered a question Do I pay before or after?

You pay and confirm the booking prior to the beginning of the stay.

answered a question How long is a dog considered a "puppy" and required higher rates?

Dogs under one year of age are considered puppies by Rover.

What is the puppy rate and what age does it apply to?

answered a question how much does Rover take out of the dog sitter's fee?
answered a question Rover Walking Certification for Now Walks?

The Rover Now certification includes an in-person harness test. If you live in a city where Rover Now is offered and you decide that it's a service you want to make yourself available for, you should receive an e-mail from Rover regarding scheduling a time for the test.

For more information about the Rover Now certification process check out this link: What’s the certification process like?

answered a question How do I get paid for my services?

I did a quick Google search with your questions. I believe these pages will give you the answers:

What are the service fees?

How do I get paid for bookings, and when?

Regarding charging for your services, it is up to you to set your own rates.

answered a question From what I have read, you don't have to have a background check, but Rover won't let me go live until I have one. Do I actually have to get one before people can hire me?

When I signed up there was no option, I had to submit to a background check before my profile could be approved.

answered a question Suspected scam from client?

This is a scam, report to Rover.

In order to avoid falling for scams in the future keep in mind that asking for personal information, insisting on communicating via personal e-mail or cell phone, and mentioning check payments are all red flags.

You will likely receive these types of inquiries from time to time, however these people have no intentions of actually utilizing your services. Do not comply with their requests and you should be safe.

Good luck!

answered a question How can you get a Rover lock key hider?

You can request a lock box from Rover free of charge here.

answered a question Multiple dog rates - 3 dogs - are first and third full price and only second is the additional dog price?

If your base rate is $15 for the first dog and $5 for each additional dog, I would think that it would be $25 total for three dogs.

It frequently happens to me that the charge in a request is higher than what it should be, similar to your example. I adjust it manually.

commented answer What happens if a request is not archived by the requested date?

I see. It seemed to me that as my booking scores went down, I placed lower on the list. Also, for the service with the higher booking score I place higher than the one with the lower booking score. It's possible that it's just a coincidence of course.

commented answer What happens if a request is not archived by the requested date?

Thanks so much for taking the time to answer my question! I appreciate it. Do you happen to know how much damage one's ranking takes doing this vs. actively archiving the request as "I wasn't available"?

asked a question What happens if a request is not archived by the requested date?

Let's say you as a walker get a request for a walk at a specific time a few days later. You're already booked for that time, so you inform the requester that you can't accept the request (and they are not flexible about the time). What happens if you don't archive the request by the date requested? Does it stay under Pending (forever)?

commented answer Rover Now: What's the difference between booking "Later (Weekly)" and booking a traditional (not on-demand) Rover walk?

This is true for NYC, Seattle, and maybe other cities. Not true for Los Angeles. In LA you can participate in Rover Now and book traditional walks. They are not mutually exclusive.

answered a question What should I do when dog wont stop barking at me on my first night sitting?

By now you have already dealt with this situation as the posting is days old, however I thought I'd share a similar experience I had today where I had to take a dog for a walk, and he was not a happy camper. In my case since this was a Rover Now walk, I had never met this dog or his owners before. He was not at all happy about having me, a complete stranger, in his house.

He was barking non-stop from the time I entered the house. He was in a crate in the kitchen so I made sure the kitchen door was closed prior to letting him out of his crate. I tried bribing him with treats, but despite eating the treats he was still barking and showing defensive aggression. He would eat the treats out of my hand before retreating and continuing to bark. I noticed that the owners had left a nylon muzzle on the kitchen counter and I successfully put the muzzle on the pooch before finally leashing him. From then on the fear turned into excitement about going for a walk and I removed the muzzle without issue. This dog never barked at me again for the duration of the hour-long walk, nor when we returned to his home.

My primary advice is always to avoid using force, but rather make a dog feel like everything is happening on their own accord. By using the treats and the muzzle I managed to safely leash the dog in question and complete the walk successfully. In this case I suspect the dog was not foreign to wearing a muzzle, however I am now considering purchasing an adjustable muzzle or two in case I encounter a similar situation again.

answered a question Rover Now: What's the difference between booking "Later (Weekly)" and booking a traditional (not on-demand) Rover walk?

From a walker's perspective, the only advantage of on-demand walks is that you can fill up your schedule, or gaps in your schedule, without having to wait for owners to contact you. And unless the walker has very low fees to the point where the payout for on-demand walks is higher than the pay for their regularly scheduled walks, the benefits for the walker stop there. As for recurrent vs. one-time on-deman walks, the payout per walk is the same.

From an owner's perspective on-demand walk requests send a walker to get the job done (one time or recurrently) without having to spend time interviewing and/or meeting with walkers, having to negotiate around their schedules etc.. It may even be cheaper than booking directly with a walker.

Ultimately the largest benefit of on-demand walks goes to Rover, taking a whooping 40% cut of each on-demand walk.
