answered a question Regarding Calendar availability, are dates in green available or unavailable?

green=available

answered a question Repeat customer gift bag item ideas?

wallgreens or CVS/ wallmart can print a decent 5x8 picture for about 1.50 I find that a well timed snapshot printed up and tucked into their stuff is a fabulous gift for first time clients.

answered a question Can someone thoroughly explain how the Rover App works?

its basically the same as the website, but in a condensed form.

answered a question Can dogs sniff cancer in other dogs?

no scientific evidence from me, but I've heard many stories of dogs doing/being able to "sniff out" illnesses. I have a chow chow that will let my neighbor pet her with his right hand only. his left hand had a cancer at some point but he's fine now, but she will back away if he tries to touch her with it. Other hand no problem! weird huh?

answered a question Can I pay my sitter using PayPal?

Yes, they do you're in luck!!

answered a question Think the dog I'm watching is mistreated, anything I can do?

In my humble opinion, all you can do is pass on advice and if the owner seems to think his dog is a "Misbehaved" dog just try to get across to him that a happy healthy dog will bring more happiness into their lives. Other than that do your best to shower "HER" with lots of love and let her know that you are there to love and take care of her.SMH

commented answer Print Store/Tote bags

answered a question I have not been answered is this normal?

I had an issue when I first started , my phone was not working with the rover app properly, messages didn't get to me for a day or two. I didn't know until one of my repeat clients told me. contacted rover right away. So just saying she might not have given you the cold shoulder. My advice, contact rover support they may be able to help you get in touch with that particular sitter or find you another sitter that meets your standards/needs.

answered a question Is there a special rate for daycare if a entire month is booked?

Discounts are totally up to you, it couldn't hurt to see what other people are offering but remember it is your time and space and you set the price.

answered a question Giving a client your real phone number

Sound advice from above ^^^^^^ I personally will never give my personal number until after a meet and greet. And even then its just like any other business you don't go giving your phone number to everyone willy nilly, I've found that the rover relay system works perfect for me.

commented answer Can I book multiple traveling sitting at the same time?

exactly, I'm like you I like to keep as busy as possible without compromising the quality of care for my guests.

commented answer Customer response to raising of price

if they have already booked, the price raise will not reflect upon them.

answered a question foster my dog

craigslist community page under pets. you will most likely find numerous rescues looking for foster parents for dogs and cats until they find a forever home. you could try contacting some of them as everyone I've met that works for not for profit animal rescues has always gone above and beyond to help the animals they are passionate about.

answered a question Dog aggressive toward husband

I had a havanese girl do that to my wife. we worked around it by having my wife pick her up before she left the couch or room and carry her a few steps and put her down. The barking stopped the same day :) Lots of pets and a little patience should do the trick.

answered a question what is the procedure with pet's food?

Make sure you tell them to bring food, and enough o cover the days they will be with you. Once I had a regular client have her 16 year old daughter drop the doggie off and she literally brought a ziplock (maybe three cups) of food for a two week stay. in this worst case scenario you can buy the food for them and add it to the bill by contacting http://rover.com OR what I did was have her order it from amazon with expedited shipping and the next day it was waiting for me at the door.

answered a question calendar/advance booking

Every time I book a client I immediately update my google calendar on my phone. this will sync across all your devices and even give you a reminder of all your upcoming stays. Hopefully http://rover.com will add the feature to sync directly with Gmail calendar or outlook directly like a lot of other sites do . fingers crossed!

answered a question Wondering is there a association, meet group for dog caregivers, etc?

I have reached out to a few other sitters in my area through searching my zip code for sitters and have met up with a few at the local dog park. 1.its good to scope out you competition right? ;) 2. it is also good to know people in your area that you could mention to a client if you are not available. 3.Its always good to meet new pet lovers!

answered a question Client Loyalty?

Its good practice to always mention that this is a first come first serve service. it helps to weed out the unsure owners as well. I typically will let the second person know that I give everyone a full day or two(time limit is up to you of course) to reply as they may be finalizing other aspects of their trip.

answered a question I may be at another residence for a month..

As far as I know you can edit your address in your profile. But hey rover support line is there for you, give them a ring :)

answered a question I dont understand the payment policy can someone please clarify it for me.....

1.set up a PayPal account if you don't have one (optional but this is the fastest way) 2.link your PayPal account to your bank account (may take a day or two to confirm this for the first time) 3. your payment will be made available to you 48 hours after the stay has finished. 4.you can have a check mailed to you (obviously takes a few days)OR instantly to your PayPal account and from there to your bank (PayPal says 3-5 working days, but it has never taken more than 1 day for me and usually within a few hours it shows up in my account)

So if your stay finishes on Sunday, and you go with the PayPal method you should have the funds accessible in your bank account by Wednesday morning. Hope that clears it up for you :)

answered a question Things for pet-parents to pack for their dog's stay

food (like the member above mentioned sometimes they want to give them a new food ,this is a no no) a toy or two leash/harness/collar crate if they wish bed if they wish nervous dogs do good with a familiar item of the owners(shirt/pillowcase/blanket) Always ask for contact info of course and emergency contacts as well (other than the owner) a list of food allergies if any a list of any rules they want enforced while they are away( being on furniture/number of treats per day) any behaviors you should look out for(obsessive paw licking/nervous chewing etc)

answered a question Are you allowed to give out your coupon code to customers that contact you directly through Rover?

Your discount code will only work for new customers to the http://rover.com site, not for anyone who has used the service before. Regardless of if it is the first time they book you for your services.

answered a question How do you share your profile on Facebook or other social media sites?

on your dashboard tab it should bee directly across from your rover balance, simple click and your good to go!

answered a question If someone requests me to sit there dog outside what I stated as my radius, can I charge more?

As with anybody offering a service you control your price. Feel free to adjust it accordingly. Depending on how many times you will visit the dog per day/how far they are from you, you can add anywhere from 5 to 10 dollars a day and sill be competitively priced. Try researching any dog walkers in your area and see how they structure their price. Hope that helps you out:)

answered a question Where do I find my referral code?

Your dashboard tab will have it towards the bottom of the page.

answered a question I want to be a pet sitter (traveller) will my macbook work for this?

I haven't had a problem on either my mac, pc, android or iPhone. I would contact rover support, they will most likely be able to point you in thee right direction and help you figure out what the problem is.

answered a question Can you JUST offer dog walking to start?

yes, you could do that. Like the others have said make sure it is clear in your title/description that you only walk pets and do not sit. Also familiarize yourself with the price adjustment page and use that to send a final quote to your clients.

answered a question After Stay: Thank you/goodie bags?

I personally use the Walgreens app and have a nice picture printed for my client when they pick up their dog the first time. Everyone loves it and it costs about 2.50 to do and as the Walgreens I use is a few blocks away it is also a good walk for the dogs and I. I also always make sure my clients see the dog totes that rover offers as they are quite well made.

answered a question Is it ok for my dog to eat mustard?

As for the mustard question : http://aboutdoggies.net/can-dogs-eat-mustard/ (http://aboutdoggies.net/can-dogs-eat-...)

A short search confirms what I've been told by more than one vet, mustard seeds are toxic to dogs. a small amount is ok but not on a regular basis.

As for how to get the dog to eat more, try picking up the bowl and only putting it down at certain times of day(morning /evening for an hour or so) . Some low/reduced sodium beef or chicken broth can work wonders if you put a bit in a spray bottle and spray some over the food while preparing the meal. Also making sure they have had plenty of exercise (at least a good walk) at least 30-45 minutes before feeding. And finally call them around you when your preparing the food, suspense help entice the dog a bit. Hope that helps

answered a question Does anyone keep track of deductions for their taxes?

Definitely start keeping receipts for all your work related expenses, throw them all in a file and take them to your tax preparer.

answered a question Sitters: Sanitizing?

After a few stays, I learned to buy toys that either go in the washer dryer, and for the hard plastic toys, kongs and balls and whatnot I throw them in the dishwasher and spray them with a little disinfectant such as Lysol or a slightly watered down bleach mix and set it to a hot wash cycle. And since they majority of the toys are used by all the dogs, my first stop is the bargain bin at the pet shop (dogs don't care if it was 50 cents or 10 dollars)

answered a question Having client fill out forms

Always have them complete the rover information pages, and ask for an emergency contact other than the owner. Like the others have said and with just about any service you pay for you the purchaser are responsible for reading the policies and fine print. It is also a good business practice to familiarize yourself with these policies . Being able to answer a clients question on the spot will make you look much more prepared and professional than directing them to a website .

answered a question Is there a way to send someone a message without requesting a sitting?

Exactly like Craig said, direct them to search on rover or take advantage of the customer help line and talk to someone directly. And again I would only recommend a sitter you personally know or have used in the past. You don't want someone else's services tarnishing your reputation.

answered a question Anxious Pom

Smaller dogs tend to have more anxiety than others(not to say large dogs never have anxiety), I have found that especially with smaller dogs when you have them over for the meet and greet ask the owner to step outside for a moment to see if the dog gets anxious. If the dog shows signs of anxiety ask the owner to provide something to sooth the dog such as a blanket from home(I find the best thing is an unwashed pillowcase that smells like the owner) or maybe a thunder coat to help .Also try to find out as much as possible about where they normally sleep at home i.e in the bathroom/under a table or whatnot. Always keep in mind that just like us they each have their own personality and sometimes it just takes a day or two to adjust to the new place/people. Ive had a few like that in the past but the issue did not reappear the next time they came over. Hope that helps a bit.

answered a question What is the best durable dog toy?

without comparison the ruffwear huckama is the most durable toy ever.
