Should I raise fee for unforseen problems?

Hi Rover community! I am hosting a precious Spanish mastiff puppy for a few days, but his behaviour is much worse than anticipated. He is a puppy and does puppy things, but I'm essentially having to leash- and house-train him as if had no prior training which I did not expect. I signed up to babysit, not to obedience train. It's also extra draining to do because he's so big. I initially charged his parent a very low fee, but with the amount of work I'm having to put in, I feel like it'd only be fair to raise my price significantly. What do you think? Is it fair to raise my fee? And if so, by how much would folks recommend?

Are you asking to raise your fee for the current booking or future? I would not raise the current booking but be honest with the behavior, and hope for a tip. Some owners tip, some don't. However, if they wanted to book with you again, I would tell them the fee will be higher due to x-y-z, or flat out let them know their dog is not a good match for your services/home/family. I have declined re-bookings for similar issues and have been upfront with the owners.

This is helpful, thanks! I'll keep this in mind. Originally I wanted to raise the current, but I'll take your advise and do that for future bookings.

I see this is an older post, but I would consider increasing your puppy rates due to this, and then offering to discount if you feel that the dog was a trained puppy. That way you're either getting what your work is worth for difficult puppies, or getting a happy client who got a discount!
