Experience with liability insurance? What insurance do you have and has anyone had to use their insurance?

Often you don't know how helpful/not helpful your insurance is until a claim is filed. I am looking for advice on which insurance to pick and wondering how responsive they were when the sitter needed the insurance. Any help would be great. I'm looking for coverage for myself and 1 other person who is really a volunteer (adult).

Kathy - I'm wondering which you eventually decided on? I'm in same situation currently, and any advice/experience you (or others since your original post) have would be appreciated! Tina

Hi, Kathy, that's a very good question. The subject has been on my mind as well, I have elected to not get insurance, but I may change that at a later date.

As Walt mentioned, the best insurance will be the one that is tailed to your business needs. The one he likes may not be the one for you.

My (hopefully) helpful advice would be to review in detail each insurance carrier's complete policy (summaries are nice but don't give the complete picture). You will find that these insurance policies are not as comprehensive as you would like.

This article provides some very interesting info on petsitter insurance policies. I hope you will find it helpful: https://jumpconsulting.net/insurance-...

There are 4 primary Pet Sitter liability insurance companies for US based businesses. All of the insurance carriers are responsive and respected. Rates start around $130 a year depending on the services you offer and how many people you are covering and your level of deductible.

Thanks for your response Walt. I am aware of the different companies and am struggling with picking a company. That is why in my question I asked for anyone that has had to file a claim or use their insurance. In a previous post, you mentioned having PSA. If I may ask, how did you pick that company?

I picked PSA as it has a zero deductible, all the others have a $500 deductible. To pick the right company you need to define your business, if you board lots of dogs at one time 5+ Kennel Pro may be the best one for you. I've never needed to file a claim, but all companies are excellent.

PSA has a $500 deductible if you intentionally took an unleashed dog outside unless it's in the client's (above ground) fenced yard. Sitters yard covered if additional boarding rider purchased.

If a dog bites a person (myself or others) is that covered under "bodily injury"?
