Am I responsible for damages to a sitters house if my dog eats their sidding?

I had my son leave his dog with a sitter when he came to visit and she ate the sitters siding.

Was this a Rover sitter?

Did you or your son inform the sitter that the dog was destructive? Is that the reason you didn't want the dog at your home?

The Rover Guarantee does not cover damage to the sitter or dog walker's property. And the sitters homeowners policy also won't cover the damage. Many owners will offer to compensate the sitter for damage done by their dogs and it would be greatly appreciated.

I agree with Lenka, no you are not responsible.Your son paid for and left the sitter in charge of the dog, therefor the sitter is responsible for the dog. I find it kind of absurd that the sitter would ask you to pay for damages. Your son was not in charge of the dog at the time. Nor was he even around to be able to control the dog. The dog was in there care of the sitter. Dogs will be dogs and that why you hired a sitter was to watch the dogs. Best of Luck!

While I agree, the dog is the sitters responsibility, what if the owners told the sitter that the dog is fine around babies/toys? Once the owner leaves and the dog chews through the babies toys and diapers. A few dollars and insufficient knowledge is unacceptable on the part of the owner.

that would be like telling the public school system.... " hey, you are watching my child, it's ok if they abuse other children and destroy school property, you are supposed to watch them!"

No, you are not responsible. The sitter must dog-proof her house and watch the dogs 24 seven. If she needs to leave, she must make sure the dog is safe and secure. That's why you hire a sitter in the first place. So she can watch the dog when you can't.

24-7? really? lets just charge $400 a dog sit if you have to have eyes on the dog 24-7. That is absolutely crazy. If an owner tells you the dogs are fine around kids and then they attack your kid, the owner needs to be held responsible.

lol 24/7. How much should anyone be paid to have their eyes glued to something for 24/7, unable to do anything else that required any amount of concentration? Have you ever sat a dog who literally needed that kind of attention? Puppies can be insane.
