Should I charge for check-ins during business hours on top of house sitting? [closed]

Hi!

I have gotten some requests that involve multiple visits throughout the day, a few of which are during business hours. I have an hourly day job, and so I lose time and money at that job if I need to perform a check-in. I've cleared this with my boss, so scheduling is not an issue at all. I'm happy to do check-ins during the day.

However, what if a client requests it house sitting, instead of "x" number of check-ins per day? My thought is that I would charge for the house sitting as normal, and then only charge for the check-ins that take me away from my day job. I would not charge for check-ins in the early mornings or evenings, because that is part of the house sitting service.

If I don't do it that way, I'd be losing money. I want to be fair to the client, but I also want to be fair to myself.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks

My house sitting rate covers 24 hours of care, most of it at the client home. I do leave to come back to my house on occasion, run errands, attend church, but the majority of the stay I am at the client home. I follow my normal routine, just from their home. My rate is 3 times my drop in rate.

That being said, you should discuss pricing and duties at the M&G to get everyone on the same page.

Rover's Help Center outlines that House Sitting is supposed to be for up to 24 hours of care. However, sitters & clients can agree on what's needed before booking. https://support.rover.com/hc/en-us/ar...

I prefer all inclusive pricing. Since House Sitting is considered a premium service, the rate should reflect that. If the dog is going to benefit from 4 walks in a 24 hour period, then it seems a fair calculation is walking rate times 4. Your profile shows a really low House Sitting Rate, so you could raise it, Or let the client know what walks it includes and how much more the other walks would cost. You'll also want to consider what is an appropriate rate for your market area.
