when a client is requesting multipe days of dog boarding how do you charge appropriately? do you also charge them for day care or is it all-inclusive?

i had a rover support agent tell me most sitters charge for day care as well when boarding for multiple nights in a row, however i have always thought it was all inclusive and only charged for boarding, because i would think that if the dog is only there overnight (for example 8pm-8am) then thats one thing, but ive never done a boarding request where that was the case, they wouldn't pick-up until the end of the booking, so i would only charge them for boarding and i treated it as all-inclusive, so when the rover support agent told me most sitters also charge for day care on boarding requests longer than one night i was surprised and im pretty sure that by choosing to take the support agents advice it cost me that client because they canceled just before they were supposed to be dropping off. if anyone could please help me understand this i would greatly appreciate it.

You need to call Rover again and talk to someone else because that advice is contrary to Rover's own FAQ:

I took a look at your rates. Thought it odd that your boarding rate was lower than your daycare rate. Does that reflect splitting up the "overnight" portion from the rest, as ill-advised by that Rover Customer Support person?

see i knew something was off about what that agent told me, ive always treated boarding as all inclusive, and yes Karen i changed my rates after speaking with the agent. i am going to be changing them again shortly. doing as much research as possible before just changing them back to what they were.

From reading this board, there are sitters (and I couldn't possibly guess how many) who treat boarding like an overnight stay only and then tack on daycare, walks, whatever. They do the same for house-sitting: an overnight stay and maybe drop-ins.

I highly agree with Karen, when boarding a client's dog it covers a 24 hour period of time from drop off to pick up. I highly doubt Rover support told you it was good practice to also charge daycare. As you are a relatively new sitter I also recommend you spend time reading the help section on Rover so you can learn the proper practices

i have the recorded phone call of the conversation with the agent telling me this information. i am not that new to pet care, i have over 3 years of experience prior to rover and have had dogs my whole life. im always reading up on rovers help section, resources and forums. i take pet care seriously
