How do you run a pet sitting business and keep your homeowner's insurance?

Hi everyone!

I just learned that my homeowner's insurance is dropping me due to running a doggy daycare/boarding business from my home. I have read through the forums here to see if there are alternatives. I have called around and can't find another company who will write me a policy.

So I wanted to ask other sitters if they have a solution or does everyone just risk it? How is it possible that all sitters are risking their homeowner's policy? Is that a risk everyone is taking?

I look forward to hearing about anyone's success story with this situation!

Be aware that your mortgage lender requires you to have coverage on your home to protect their interest

While Rover makes it seem easy to open a business and be listed on their site, NONE of the home insurance carriers will cover you if you run a business like a doggie daycare or boarding in the home. Many I know try to run under the radar, but if a neighbor complains then all hell will break loose.

I hate to say this but you will have to stop your Rover in home business and have your home covered by insurance. Best of luck to you!

Yes you can have a policy that covers your business has a dog sitter call your insurance agent he should be able to provide the insurance that you need.

Unfortunately, even though I can get additional insurance to cover pets and business, my insurance co still told me they would drop me due to running a boarding business from home. I contacted 14 companies and they all said the same thing...they would not write a policy for my home with dog business

I had the same thing happen to me. I have business insurance specifically for my in-home doggy daycare but my homeowners just dropped me anyway and there are absolutely no homeowners insurance policies near or far that will cover me now. So as far as I can ascertain there is no way to have your home insured and have this kind of business.
