What boarding Insurance do you guys extra outside of Rover?

It has come to my attention that the insurance that rover offers at this time is considered secondary insurance that only covers injuries caused by another dog, it does not include injuries you may receive from handling another dog, damages to your property or possessions, and viral illnesses. Do not believe just because Rover offers insurance that it covers initially everything up front. I'm trying to make sure myself and my home are protected as well. I love Rover and have not had any issues up to this point, but I finally had a situation come up where I questioned the insurance policy and come to find out they really don't cover much. I want to stay in business, let me know if you come up with any suggestions for legitimate insurance for in home boarding. Thanks!

I have my insurance through http://petcareins.com. it was the only one that upon investigation had BBB A+ Rating and actual reviews from customers you could find online. Added bonus is they have AMAZING customer service. I mean that's rare these days. Was very happy and impressed. Super simple to sign up and has all the coverage options you would possibly need with options to customize. Also once you have a policy they give you assistance and a discount on incorporating your business (LLC, S-corp). Online dashboard with your policy, documents, etc and the website is very user friendly.. I heard the Carolinas is fine too, though the coverage options are different and you have to also become a member of another organization first. Bad website and not very helpful. But I know trainers that use them and say it's fine. Hope this helps.

You could check out Pet Sitters Associates, LLC. They provide insurance for in-home boarding with a $0 deductible. I use their insurance for my services (walks and drop-ins). You can use the code PETS for a discount for being a Rover sitter, too! Here is the link: http://www.petsitllc.com/

My homeowner's insurance dropped me completely and I can't find another to write me a policy. They said that because there is a long list of dangerous breeds they can not insure me in a home and accept the risk that I won't board those breeds.

I'm curious Jared, does this mean you just go without homeowner's insurance completely? I ask because I faced this situation as well.

It looks like I am going to close down my business. Been doing this since 2014 and didn't realize this could happen. Without homeowner's insurance, your mortgage company will cancel your loan. I guess most people aren't telling their insurance company what they are doing. It is too risky not to tell

That is such a shame. To be honest, I was a little nervous even reaching out and commenting on your post because I worry about insurance companies snooping on here to try and catch people. Basically when I started my business (also back in 2014) I called and spoke to a rep at our insurance company

and was told they were going to drop me. Thankfully I had a more personal relationship with the main agent and he called me simply to say when it comes to things like this it's a complete don't ask, don't tell situation. I just can't help but worry what could happen. Best of luck to you. So sorry!

There are 4 primary pet business insurance companies for US based businesses. All of the insurance carriers are very responsive. Make a list of all your questions and ask them of all.

Business Insurers of the Carolinas, www.business-insurers.com/

-Pet Care Insurance https://www.petcareins.com/

Hi Walt. I saw you've commented on a couple of things regarding insurance and I was wondering if in your area you are covered by a policy? I'm getting worried and I just can't imagine all these sitters follow a don't ask don't tell policy with their insurance. There has to be a better answer.

are there any pet business insurance companies in Canada that anyone knows of?

@KatherineK I have independent pet care business insurance but that is not the same as homeowners insurance. Most home insurers won't cover you ever if you home board, that's just one reason I don't offer boarding

@andrea here are a few Canadian insurance companies https://petsits.com/petsittinginsurancecanada
