All Rover sitters are background checked, but the best security is your own gut! Have a meet and greet with the sitter, both to assess how they will care for your dog, as well as how you feel about having them in your home while you are away. You can book a visit for while you are home (have them take the dog for a walk, etc.) and see if you feel comfortable with the situation.

You can also reach out to Rover Support and ask how their insurance policy covers your belongings. I believe it covers damages (to the pet owner's home, not the sitter's), but am not sure if it also covers theft.

Finally, most sitters on the Rover platform honestly love pets! I personally can't imagine going through the process of setting up an account, getting approved by Rover, spending time to make it appealing for pet owners to reach out to me, just so that I could get a key to their home to steal something. Plus, Rover knows who I am, so could easily identify me after the fact.
