I'm new, How does allowing the sitter into your house work? Do they keep a key just for the time you are gone?

Hi! I am completely new and I can't find the answer to the question I need. To those Rover users that are more experienced, how do the in-house drop in visits work for you in regards to their access? You give them a key?

Thanks!

Hi, Cando! Welcome to Rover. Depending on your particular house, you will give them a key so that they can access your home while you are away. If you are in an apartment and have a fob/gate code/alarm code, etc these are also very helpful things to give to the sitter. Be sure to discuss with your sitter how you would like to exchange the key when they complete the booking. Should they leave it under the mat or should they meet with you after your return to give it back? Your sitter should ask these questions at the meet and greet, but if they don't: it's a good thing to bring up with them.

Basically, I leave it up to the owner, as it's their home and I want them to be comfortable and in control of that decision. Different people have different preferences. I always ask what the pet parents want during the meet&greet.

  • Some gave me a spare key.
  • Some left a key hidden somewhere and asked that I leave it there when I left. (Again their choice)
  • Some gave me a code or a remote to a door / garage entry door code for access.
