Adult Dog pees everywhere 15+ times in one day right in front of me??

Hey Everyone,

I'm sitting a 3 year old dog for the first time and I was told she is potty-trained. However, she has peed in the house 15+ times directly in front of me. She has been walked 4 times today and its only 3pm and she peed on each walk. I don't know what to do. She is destroying my carpet. I brought it up to the owner and he brushed me off saying yeah she sometimes pees on cushy things like carpet (UM HELLO DISCLAIMER I WOULD HAVE LIKED TO KNOW THAT). He is only 2 hours away and I'd love to ask him to leave his trip early and get his dog because this is out of control. What I will pay in carpet cleaning is more than the $50 this booking earns me. Any thoughts??

Lauren, if you have a crate I would try to crate the dog, or if you have gates keep it in a small area of your house that is not carpeted.

I would cancel the stay and tell him this is not what you singed up for, or agreed upon. You can also suggest that he find a Rover house sitter, since his dog does not adjust well in other people's house. Rover sitter does not charge a premium, ruining your house and belongings is not worth it. I've been a Rover sitter since 2012. This is what I realized over the years.

Unfortunately, even if dogs are potty trained and with frequent walks, nerves sometimes get the best of them. I empathize as I have experienced the same with a female who I walked about every other hour to prevent some accidents during her stays. Although I don't have carpet, it can still happen.

Some sitters will set up a play pen or gate an easier cleaned floor until the dog's comfort level increases & accidents decrease. Others will tether the dog to them so they go everywhere together, so you can re-direct any pee attempts right away to a more appropriate place. Some use diapers as an immediate remedy. If absolutely none of this can work, then contact Rover. They can transfer the stay to another sitter, but your account will be penalized. If your client has to end his trip at your request, Rover could terminate your account. I'd suggest try to make this work and make sure that you ask more specific questions prior to or during meet & greets about dog behaviors to help determine you only accept the right bookings for you.

I had the same problem and I would say invest in a crate for situations like this and get belly bands. You can find a crate cheap on craigslist or Facebook buy and sell groups. I found one for $15. Good Luck!

I have it in my profile that excessive accidents are not wanted, must be trained. I have belly bands, playpen, crates, and a cement lower room. Problem dog is not allowed in rest of house.
