Is this site security protected from cyber fraud and hackers?

I am applying to become a dog walker/sitter and have nearly completed the process. I have submitted my credit card information to pay for a background check. Now I'm being asked for my Social Security number and am very reluctant to do so. (My Kaspersky security always pops up when I'm about to submit either credit card information or my SS number but doesn't on this application). Please contact me and give absolute verification that you are authentic and that your site is secure and safe from cyber fraud and hackers.

The content on this forum is mostly from pet care providers and pet parents, not Rover employees (although they do add in occasionally). You'd want to contact Rover directly (ph. [Edit: Rover’s contact options have changed. Visit the Rover Help Center at https://support.rover.com/ to find the phone number, help articles, or chat with the team]). Rover uses a third party to conduct the background check.

Nowadays, security theft is rampant, whether or not you're using technology, as paperwork also present plenty of risk. Even government websites that were made to be secure with loads of personal private information about individuals, were compromised by hackers in recent years. So, I really don't know if they can reassure you completely.

You are being asked for your Social Security number because Rover has to report all their payments to us to the IRS. The https in front of the website address indicates that it is secure, or as secure as it can be. I don't think any website is completely secure, hackers are getting more clever by the day. I have been with Rover for 2.5 years and have had no issues.

As Deb said, this forum is for sitters to to talk to each other. You should contact Rover Support.
