When you book an overnight at your home for several days, how do you list a fee for the last day watching the pet all day until evening? Like Fri, Sat, Sun, Mon pays for 4 night but pickup is late Tuesday?

How do you deal with the last day when you have the pets all day long?

I base my charges off the dropoff and pickup times for boarding in my home and use Rover's 24-hour clock. 4 hours or less difference between dropoff time and pickup, no extra charge. 4-8 hours difference gets $10 charge for daycare. Anything over 8 hours gets another full day charge. I calculate my house sitting charges the same way.

So for me it all depends on dropoff and pickup time, or arrival and departure time for house sitting. In my initial response message to new clients, I tell them the total charge will depend on the times. Then at the M&G I get approximate times and then tell them I will edit the charge accordingly. That way there are no surprises and the client can cancel the stay if they don't agree.

You can charge a "daycare" session since the system won't let you count it as another day of boarding. Rover says that it is a 24 hour period, but I wish they would allow a way for their system to keep track of when that 24 hours technically started and ended.

Rover suggests boarding should be calculated in 24 hour blocks. So you could tell the Owner that if they drop off at 8AM their payment covers until 8AM the day of pick-up. So technically if they pick-up after that they'd need to pay for one day of Doggy day care. You can explain that either at the Meet & Greet or better yet in your initial contact you could explain it and edit the Stay Request to include that additional fee. That way they know their cost before they take time to come to the Meet & Greet.

All of that being said... I do mostly boarding. I look at my fee as charging per night rather than per day. I state in my profile that my hours are 7AM until 10PM. You could look at that as the person getting a free day of sitting. Personally I feel it simplifies things. Shockingly ;) people still try to get extra time out of me by booking a certain start date then calling and asking if they can bring the dog night before so they can catch an early flight etc etc. Or wanting to come at midnight or 1AM instead of the following morning. Because my pricing is incredibly fair I have no problem saying "Sure you can come a day early or pick up late night... I'll Extend Your Stay then once you pay for it you are welcome to come early/late" I state it very matter of factly so that there is no room for the Owner to think it is negotiable.

BTW I'm pretty sure allowing that wide range of pick-up/drop-off times has gotten me some clients that see that as a perk rather than dealing with a Sitter that wants the extra money for that last day.
