We really appreciated Emily coming to our house. She communicated updates well and sent photos. So nice to not have to worry about our pet when we were gone. Our dog did so well with her! We will definitely use her again. Thanks Emily!

It is clear Ulyana loves dogs! Pika and her clicked right away (which is rare for a shiba). I felt very comfortable leaving Pika with her. She sent photos which was very lovely. I will definitely be hiring again!

Rp was fantastic with our herd of two cats and two large dogs, some of who require regular medications. Our house was tidy and clean and our pets were happy and healthy. We received regular updates and photos of everyone having a great time. RP made our vacation totally worry-free. Highly recommend RP!!

About: I’ve been caring for dogs since I was 12, and it’s truly one of my favorite things to do! I love spending time with furry friends—feeding them, playing with them, and making sure they feel happy and safe. Since moving to Winnipeg four years ago, I’ve been the go‑to pet sitter for friends whenever they travel. They trust me because I follow their instructions carefully and treat their pets like part of my own family. I’d be happy to give your beloved companion the same loving care while you’re away! I’m working from home right now, so I’d really enjoy hanging out with a furry friend. I have plenty of experience caring for pets, and I’m flexible with my hours to make sure they get all the attention and walks they need. I’ll make sure your pet feels safe and comfy. With a balcony for fresh air, your furry friend will be happy. I follow instructions carefully and give lots of love and care.

About: Hello! My name is Hadas and I am a dedicated pet sitter and dog walker based in Winnipeg. I am 26 years old and work full time from home during the week so my schedule is flexible. I have a passion for caring for animals, and I specialize in providing services for both cats and dogs. I am a big animal lover. I currently have three cats (one senior) and have experience with puppies and senior dogs. 🐶🐈‍⬛ I currently work home full time Monday to Friday 8-4:30. I am always home during the weekends as well. I have a very flexible schedule and can be with your pet all the time and give it all of the love and attention they need and deserve. My home is a very clean, organized and safe place. I have three cats who love dogs. Two of them are four years old and the other one is 11. They are all in great health condition, are fixed and have all their vaccines. We recently had our senior dog pass away and they all got along great. As long as your dog is cat friendly there won’t be an issue.

Sharon was a wonderful sitter. She was responsive and gave us daily updates in form of pictures and videos. She also reached out with potential issues when they came up in order to ensure a healthy happy pup. We were nervous leaving Huxley in anyone else's hands, but Sharon kept our anxiety down. We will definitely be booking Sharon again!

Julia took such good care of our big dog, 2 cats and even updated us on our bearded dragon. Our home was well cared for and she was paying attention to the animals and noticed details about their day. Our dog is not great on a leash but Julia managed her no problem! We would definitely book with her again.

Pet parents share their Rover experiences - Portage la Prairie

Wonderful first house sitting experience for me! I would highly recommend Emily. Two weeks prior to a trip, my typical sitter option flaked out. Quickly hopped on Rover hoping for an alternative and couldn't of been a better choice. Emily agreed on such short notice to meet both my pups and take a tour of the residence and they took to her extremely quick in the house, which they don't do with most strangers! The house-sitting experience itself, as mentioned, was a first for me. Typically they've always stayed with friends. I had some personal concerns about leaving my house and dogs entirely to someone else but coming home, the place was impeccable and both dogs were as relaxed and happy as could be! One of my dogs had to take daily oral medication, which she handled without problems. All said and done? I would book again without hesitation, knowing I can guarantee my dogs to be happy and the house to be safe and cared for!

Frequently asked questions about Rover

The average cost for House Sitting in Portage la Prairie on Rover is $44.4 per night (as of August 2026). However, all sitters set their own rates based on experience, location, and availability.

It’s helpful to think of house sitting as a "home base" service. Most sitters in Portage la Prairie maintain their normal daily routines, like running errands or heading to the office, meaning your pet should be comfortable being alone for a few hours at a time. If your pet needs a little extra company, here is how to find the perfect match:

  • Look for "WFH" sitters: Many sitters mention "Work from Home" on their profile to indicate they’ll be present for the majority of the day.
  • Update your pet’s profile: Write down how long your pet can comfortably be left alone. This helps sitters quickly determine if their schedule aligns with your needs.
  • Communicate 24/7 needs: Standard house sitting usually doesn't include constant supervision. If your pet requires round-the-clock care, be sure to discuss this upfront.

Tip: Use the Meet & Greet to confirm a sitter's typical "away" windows. Transparency ensures your pet stays happy and your sitter can plan their day effectively!

Beyond belly rubs and feeding schedules, a house sitter’s presence may provide an additional layer of security for your home. However, you will need to arrange overnight stays and other household tasks with your sitter when reaching out to them. Not all sitters offer the same services. Common household tasks you can negotiate include:

  • Mail & deliveries: Collecting letters and packages so they don't pile up.
  • Plant care: Keeping your indoor or outdoor garden hydrated.
  • Garbage & recycling: Taking garbage bins to the curb on scheduled pickup days.
  • Home security: Sitters can stay overnight to keep your home occupied.

The best way to align on expectations is during your free Meet & Greet. Use this time to provide a "home cheat sheet" that includes your preferred Portage la Prairie walking routes, the location of your favourite pet store, and any specific quirks about your home’s security or appliances.

Key handling is entirely up to you and your sitter to agree on during the Meet & Greet or in the Rover app. Most pet parents in Portage la Prairie choose to hand over a spare key or digital fob in person, while others arrange a lockbox or unique access code. Don't forget to discuss key returns as well!

You can find what you need to review a sitter on their profile before booking with them. Each sitters’s profile on Rover shows verified reviews, identity check, and ratings to give a glimpse of how their previous visits went. You can also use the Meet & Greet to walk through your home, identifying which areas, like your bedroom, are off-limits or not. Requesting details of your home security through the app can also be a good way to have your sitter keep you updated about your home.

If you have security cameras or doorbells, Rover asks that you disclose them to sitters before you book.

Every sitter on Rover is required to pass a background check before listing their services. This process confirms their identity and indicates they do not have any disqualifying offences.

Beyond ID checks, you can review each sitter's star rating, read verified reviews from other pet parents, and see how many repeat clients they have. Every booking is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care. For more details, visit Rover's Trust & Safety page .

The Rover Guarantee is Rover’s commitment to your peace of mind every time you book. It includes 24/7 customer support, sitter access to advice from qualified veterinary professionals for diagnostic issues, and a reimbursement program for eligible veterinary care in the rare event something goes wrong.

All bookings are backed by the Rover Guarantee , which provides up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care reimbursement.

Emergency support is available by phone or email in English 24/7. When an incident occurs, we recommend that sitters contact our Trust & Safety team immediately so that they can connect your sitter with a veterinary professional or offer other resources to help.

If a sitter needs to cancel at the last minute, Rover’s reservation protection means Rover Support will work with you to find a suitable replacement as quickly as possible.

A Meet & Greet is a short introductory meeting between you, your pet, and a sitter. It can take place in person or virtually, although we recommend in-person so that your pet can get to know your sitter or the new environment. During the Meet & Greet, you will have a chance to walk through your pet's routine, medical needs, and unique quirks. Take the time to ask your sitter questions about their skills and expertise, and make sure the fit feels right for everyone. Most pet parents and sitters on Rover welcome Meet & Greets because the process can give confidence and peace of mind for service experiences, especially for longer stays or first-time bookings.

Yes, you can find sitters who have experience administering medication or managing dietary requirements. You can also find pet sitters who accept only one pet at a time, which is ideal for anxious puppies or senior pets who move at a gentler pace. Some sitters will also list availability for 24/7 care, also known as constant care, in their profiles.

Use the search filters to narrow down sitters whose specific experience or environment meets your pet's needs. When reaching out to your sitter, outline your pet's care routine and request a Meet & Greet to walk your sitter through your expectations.
