There’s also a selection of Italian aperitivo-style drinks, with various types of Spritz, a traditional Negroni and even a homemade limoncello for a post-pizza pick me up. All the while your dog will feel very welcome with his refills of fresh water and lots of attention from the staff.

Dogs are allowed in Gaucho restaurants across the UK and this Birmingham branch is no exception. As long as your little mate is well-behaved, they’ll be welcomed with open arms between the hours of midday and 6pm. Dress up your pup in her best collar after a trip to the groomer so she’ll fit in perfectly at this luxurious venue and you can enjoy some of the world’s finest Argentinian steaks in the best possible company.

Every day from 12-6pm you’ll be able to take advantage of the set menu, with two courses for £24.50 or three courses for £27.50. On a Sunday, you can get an upmarket roast dinner, including a “Never-Ending Roast” for £35.00 where you get unlimited veggies and Yorkshires!

Address: 93 Alcester Road, Moseley, Birmingham, West Midlands, B13 8DD
Telephone: 0121 442 3901

Price range: ££
Recommended dish: Halloumi & Triple-Cooked Chips

In the heart of Moseley Village, the One Trick Pony Club happily welcomes our four-legged friends. It’s the perfect place for a pitstop after walkies in the beautiful Moseley Park, with its luscious greenery and stunning lake.

The varied menu offers Chicken Society wings, bites and fillets; Ruby Jean’s burgers; a veggie and vegan selection from Veg Heads; and also some traditional English grub from Pub Grub Co. For parties of over 10 people, there’s also a buffet and veggie buffet menu that will serve guests a selection of favourites, including triple-cooked chips, cheeseburgers, vegan nachos and British scampi. In the evenings, this venue also holds live music events. Full transparency, the music may be a bit much for your dog’s sensitive ears.

4. 1000 Trades

Address: 16 Frederick St, Birmingham B1 3HE

Telephone: 0121 233 2693
Reservations: Recommended
Price range: ££
Recommended dish: Lebanese Flatbreads

With new residencies in the kitchen every month, you can be sure to always find something new and exciting on the menu at 1000 Trades. The best news is you can bring your dog along to soak up the atmosphere with you. On most Sundays throughout the winter, they host jazz roasts, so you and your little mate can listen to some cool sax solos while chomping on a rump of lamb or vegetable Wellington.

1000 Trades is set in a historic 19th Century building that used to be a jewellery workshop and badge factory. The space now runs all kinds of events alongside the kitchen, such as Phil Thompson’s Art Lab—celebrating everything from music to poetry, performance and film. They even recently hosted a ‘pup crawl’ with ‘If I Can’t Bring The Dog I’m Not Going’ t-shirts, games, paw-rizes, paw-secco and doggy goody bags! However, not all events will be suitable for your dog, so be sure to check out their events page before you go.

5. Eat Vietnam

Address: 1422 Pershore Rd, Stirchley, Birmingham B30 2PH
Telephone: 0121 433 3377
Reservations: Recommended
Price range: ££
Recommended dish: Barbecued Pork Curry

Eat Vietnam is an extremely popular restaurant in Stirchley, South Birmingham, who just so happen to be dog-friendly too! Their delicious menu offers curries, noodles and an ever-rotating range of small plates for tapas-style meals (but with Vietnamese food, of course). Some of their most popular dishes include marmite & peanut butter chicken wings, bahn mi and turmeric fish.

Dogs are welcome inside, but it’s quite a small restaurant so might not be suitable for larger dogs. They also have an outdoor area in summer that serves an express menu including snacks like spring rolls and Vietnamese scotch eggs. In the outdoor area, there’s a bit more space for dogs to roam around. If you fancy visiting Eat Vietnam, be sure to book online in advance. This busy locale often has no space for walk ins.

Dogs in restaurants aren’t everyone’s cup of tea. Some lessons you’ll want your pup to know before venturing out to these locales may include settling on a mat or under your chair and being responsive to their name. You may even want to plan around busy hours and visit a pub during quiet time. It’s not the most fun you can have but allowing your dog to experience the pub while it’s less distracting is a great way to train them to keep calm as you carry on from one pint to the next with your friends. If you don’t think your dog is ready to take the high streets just yet—and you’re afraid they’ll cause trouble at home due to separation anxiety—consider leaving them at home with a sitter.
