News you can use: The long-awaited video game Red Dead Redemption 2 lets you make friends with any dogs you see in the open world game. The number of breeds roaming the countryside has yet to be discovered.
We support your choices. Pat those dogs.
Yes, I have pet every dog I’ve seen. No, I wont stop. #RDR2 pic.twitter.com/o2JWUrCyV3

Not only do you get to love on dogs, but the other game characters love dogs too—and if you hurt a dog, even accidentally, all the characters that see you will come after you and run you out of town (or worse), plus you’ll get a bounty on your head for animal cruelty.
And the dogs you pat remember you
Okay I’m pretty sure dogs recognise you in RDR2, as I just had a dog run up to me excitedly wagging his tail and barking, and it was the same one I was patting earlier last time I was in that town.

You can pat the dogs you meet as long as you like. There is a scold button—but who would ever use it?
Ooh, a foxhound!

Horse fans, there are choices for you, too
I’ve kept up with the local dog in town; pats, words of encouragement and the like.

Cats don’t seem to pat-able—yet
