But that also means finding a pitstops for food and drink where dogs are welcome. Thankfully, the West Midlands is chock-full of dog-friendly pubs and is happy to deliver when it comes to doggy treats, refreshing drinks, and hospitality.

The Black Pug is “obviously” a dog-friendly pub, according to its website, and the dog “beer” (read: water) barrels dotted around the spacious garden are a lovely touch. Treats are on hand to enter the pub firmly in your dog’s good books, and you can easily find shade in the garden on a hot day.
Plus, you’re not far from Crackley Wood, the Milverton Loop, or Emscote Nature Reserve for a nearby dog-friendly stroll.
The Tiltyard, Kenilworth

The best part about The Tiltyard for dogs is its secure, spacious courtyard area, with friendly, welcoming staff on hand to help out. However, amenities are a little thin on the ground, with water bowls serving as the only canine offering.
Kenilworth Common and Crackley Woods are a stone’s throw away, meaning that The Tiltyard is well-placed for some walkies followed by a pit stop.

A short trot from Earlswood Lakes and Clowes Wood Nature Reserve, beautiful walks are ten-a-penny near The Bulls Head. So you can work up an appetite before heading to this very dog-friendly establishment. The pub has what looks like a brand new terrace outside, and the outdoor space is genuinely beautiful.
And there’s a huge fuss waiting for your dogs at The Bulls Head, courtesy of the super-friendly staff, with water bowls, treats, and beds provided.

Dietary requirements? Vegetarian, vegan, and gluten-free options
Hours of operation:
- Mondays to Saturday: 12pm-9pm

When you’re exploring the many canals of the West Midlands, the highlights include canalside boozers like The Cape of Good Hope. Although the outdoor space isn’t secure, it is massive, and it offers a peaceful rest by the side of the water. While you have your feet up, your pup can refresh themselves with a bowl of water and a treat.
Not only are you within reach of miles of canals, but you can also head to Kenilworth Castle grounds, Charlecote Park, or Ryton Pools Country Park for a walk.
The Royal Oak, Brandon

Telephone: 02476 542304
Nearest train station: Coventry, with a bus to Hallams Close afterwards
Reservations needed: Booking ahead recommended
Indoor or outdoor seating: Both available
Price range (a meal + pint): £20-£25, with steaks costing slightly more
Dietary requirements? Vegetarian, vegan, and gluten-free options
Hours of operation:
- Mondays to Thursday: 9am-10:30pm
- Friday and Saturday: 8:30am-11:30pm
- Sunday: 8:30pm-7pm
We love to see a dog menu, and The Royal Oak offers a great one from Sir Woofchester’s. Their lip-licking offering features treats like sausages and mini cheeseburgers or pub-classic-inspired full meals such as a roast dinner or fish and chips. Aside from this, the pub offers water, pats, toys, and treats, and dogs are allowed anywhere in the bar dining area.
Your dog can work up an appetite beforehand in the Forest of Dean’s expansive woodland paths or the Welcombe Hills’ open, grassy spaces.
The Almanack, Kenilworth
Address: Abbey End North, Kenilworth, Warwickshire, CV8 1QJ
Telephone: 01926 353637
Nearest train station: Coventry, with a bus to Shops stop afterwards
Reservations needed: Strongly recommended at busy times
Indoor or outdoor seating: Both available
Price range (a meal + pint): £25-£30
Dietary requirements? Plant-based, vegetarian, and gluten-free options available
Hours of operation:
- Monday: 8am-9pm
- Tuesday to Thursday: 8am-10pm
- Friday and Saturday: 8am-11pm
- Sunday: 8am-8pm
If your dog is more of a morning person, The Almanack is a suitable stopping point on an early walk in the centre of Kenilworth or near Kenilworth Common, as it’s one of the few our reviewer found that was open from 8am.
The staff are welcoming and actively offer water. Not every area of the pub is dog-friendly, but the sheer number of dogs in the bar area speaks volumes to how welcoming they are for the canine collective. That’s more a feature of country pubs than city centre pubs, so seeing this in such a central location was superb.
The Old Mill, Baginton
Address: Mill Hill, Baginton, Coventry, Warwickshire, CV8 3AH
Telephone: 01684 574373
Nearest train station: Coventry, with a bus to Alfriston Road afterwards

Indoor or outdoor seating: Both available

Dietary requirements? Vegetarian, vegan, and gluten-free options
Hours of operation:
- Monday to Friday: 7am-11pm
- Saturday: 8am-11pm
- Sunday: 8am-10:30pm
This beautiful waterside boozer offers ample space inside and outside for your pups to feel settled and happy. The Old Mill is also one of the better options in the area for dog-friendly facilities, with water bowls, treats, beds, and blankets on offer. The incredibly friendly staff also make the Old Mill experience worthwhile.
Go for a walk together along the River Sowe once you’re done tucking into the pub’s menu.

The Tom O’ The Wood signposts their dog-friendliness all around the pub – they’re fiercely proud of it, and the owners will make an effort to come over and ask about your four-legged pal. They also have a superb outdoor space and provide treats, water, and a dog menu with artisanal dog-safe baked goods and treats from The Canine Menu.
The Union Canal is a gorgeous nearby walk, and the tiny village of Rowington is right on Rowington Green, providing miles and miles of walkies. A must-visit if you’re in the West Midlands.
Other Dog-Friendly Pubs Our Reviewers Visited in the West Midlands
Here are some other options our reviewer visited while in the area:
Not sure whether to bring your dog to the pub?
Many dogs adore being made a fuss over by pub staff and are happy chilling while you dine. For others, the buzz of a bar might be too overwhelming. If you’re worried it might be a stressful experience for your dog, consider letting them sit it out and, instead, curl up with a dedicated pet sitter. There are Rover dog sitters based all over the West Midlands who can keep them company and give them all the attention and care they desire.
