You can always tell when a pub owner is also a pet parent, as is the case with beautiful roadside fixture The Wheelwrights Arms. The pub provides a whole heap of water bowls in the garden, and treats are available at the bar. Despite this, the landlady took steps to bring treats out to the PHO’s dog and strike up a conversation about them.
Plus, you’re not far from Bannau Brycheiniog National Park, which boasts an expanse of beautiful countryside to share with your dog.

Hours of operation:

- Wednesday and Thursday: 5pm-10pm
- Friday and Saturday: 12pm-10pm
- Sunday: 12pm-8pm
Another pub nestled in Bannau Brycheiniog, one of the dog-walking highlights of the UK, The Goose & Cuckoo boasts stunning views from its beer garden.
The pub has a water station at the entrance and multiple bowls available in the garden, as well as treats at the bar! It’s really all about the stunning view here. Plus, it’s a tranquil spot, which makes it just right for helping a dog settle after marching through some breathtaking scenery. The garden could be more secure to allow a carefree lollop-around, but Bannau Brycheiniog is full of opportunities for your dog to let off steam.
The Snowdon, Llandudno

The Snowdon is that rare breed of pub: a quiet spot near a busy seafront with plenty to do. With the Great Orme in the backdrop, your dog can enjoy the water station outside as well as treats at the bar. It’s an excellent spot for refreshing yourselves after a beachfront stroll in Llandudno, and has a great range of drinks for humans.
However, it’s worth noting that the garden doesn’t have much shade, so if it’s a hot day, another pub with more covered areas might be more comfortable for your dog.

As a country pub attached to a caravan park in the stunning Bannau Brycheiniog Country Park, The Royal Oak has jaw-dropping green vistas as standard. It’s family-run, and the family in question happen to love dogs, as do many of the regulars.
They provide a tap outside next to a stack of water bowls, treats, and snacks, and towels for cleaning mucky pups after a hard day’s frolicking in the park.

Indoor or outdoor seating: Both available

Blaina Wharf is a must-visit on the banks of the River Usk, offering roast dinners every day in the form of a carvery and providing a large separate room with its own dining area for people bringing their dogs. Their dog-friendly perks are clearly signposted, providing fresh water, treats, and poo bags. Importantly, there’s enough space between tables for dogs to move about in this large, friendly watering hole.
Its riverside spot makes it an ideal stopping or starting point for a long, picturesque walk. However, the outside area isn’t gated, so you’d need to keep them on a lead.
Other Dog-Friendly Pubs Our Reviewer Visited in Wales
Our PHO looked at some other pubs, too, if you happen to be nearby:
Is your dog pub-friendly?
Some dogs love the hustle and bustle of social spaces like pubs, but others prefer the quiet life. If your dog is reactive when meeting strangers or gets overwhelmed in unfamiliar surroundings, they probably won’t enjoy exploring the pubs in and around Wales, even if they are dog-friendly. Luckily, there are lots of Rover dog sitters, ready to look after your dog while you’re soaking up the local sights.
