Whichever part of the country you’re in (even the remote parts), it’s no chore to find a dog-friendly pub either. Many local pubs are more than ready to serve you and your dog a place to relax and refresh after your adventures.
Here are our choices of the best dog-friendly pubs across Scotland, including some with dog-friendly rooms where you can put your feet (and paws) up for the night.
Dog-Friendly Pubs Our Reviewer Visited in Scotland
Our Public House Officer (PHO) checked out eight pubs in total before deciding on a winner. Find out about the winner at the bottom of the article, but be sure to learn about these fine dog-friendly drinkeries — they all have something to offer you and your dog.

Drinks in front of waterfalls? Yes please! A perfect pit stop for a Scottish road trip, the Falls of Dochart Inn also makes a splash in terms of catering for your dog with water bowls and treats. The staff are extremely friendly and the pub makes their canine welcome very clear at the entrance.
The pub also boasts something of a rarity: its own smokehouse for gorgeously fresh smoked salmon, if that’s your thing.
The Taybank, Dunkeld, Perthshire
Address: The Taybank, Tay Terrace, Dunkeld, Perthshire, PH8 0AQ
Telephone: 01350 677123
Nearest train station: Dunkeld & Birnam Rail Station
Reservations needed: Recommended

Price range (meal and a pint): £25–£40
Dietary requirements? Vegetarian, vegan, and gluten-free
Hours of operation:
- Monday to Sunday: 12pm-late
Another pub boasting absolutely breathtaking views, The Taybank offers an incredible vantage point over the River Tay in Dunkeld and ranks as one of the nicest pub garden views in the country. Your dog can slurp up a water bowl (which are offered as soon as you reach the bar) and some treats while you take in the views.
Even though our PHO visited on one of the hottest Scottish days in years, the staff were truly hospitable and went to great lengths to welcome them and their dog.
The Sheep Heid Inn, Edinburgh
Address: 43–45 The Causeway, Edinburgh, EH15 3QA
Telephone: 01316 617974
Nearest train station: Waverley Rail Station
Nearest bus stop: Duddington bus stop
Reservations needed: Recommended for dog-friendly tables
Indoor or outdoor seating: Both
Price range (meal and a pint): £17–25
Dietary requirements? Vegetarian, vegan, and gluten-free options
Hours of operation:
- Monday to Friday: 11am-11pm
- Saturday and Sunday: 11:30am-11pm
The Sheep Heid Inn offered up a great welcome at the door and a perfect courtyard garden for a pup to relax in. While there’s not much more than water bowls here, the garden has plenty of them, and the chilled atmosphere is a significant factor when trying to calm a lively, furry companion.
If you’re looking for a challenging post-pub workout for you and your dog, Arthur’s Seat is just nearby. Reward those walkies with a stunning view at the top! For those of us who perhaps don’t much care for burning glutes, Holyrood Park is another great local walk that lets you have your dog off-lead.
The Drover’s Inn, Inverarnan
Address: Beinglas Farmhouse, Inverarnan, Arrochar, Argyll and Bute, G83 7DX
Telephone: 01301 704234
Nearest bus stop: Inverarnan Hotel bus stop
Reservations needed: Booking recommended but not compulsory
Indoor or outdoor seating: Both
Price range (meal and a pint): £15-£20
Dietary requirements? Vegetarian, vegan, and gluten-free
Hours of operation:
- Monday-Sunday: 11:30am opening time, but closing times vary, so check the Facebook page before you visit
The Drover’s Inn is an out-of-the-way pub brimming with cheer, spirit, and humorous dog-behaviour-themed signage — everything you associate with bonnie Scotland. This was one of the PHO’s favourite spots, proving itself to be very dog-friendly with a dog menu, treats galore, and water bowls available when needed.
Plus, they throw together a cracking Sunday Roast. While the garden wasn’t secure, walking around the nearby Loch Lomond instead is just the ticket after that much roast meat. There is also, and we cannot stress this enough, a bear wearing a kilt as soon as you enter.
The Horn, Glasgow
Address: 508 Great Western Rd, Glasgow, G12 8EL
Telephone: 0141 732 9424
Nearest train station: Kelvinbridge station
Reservations needed: Walk-ins welcome
Indoor or outdoor seating: Both
Price range (meal and a pint): £20-£30
Dietary requirements? Vegetarian, vegan, and gluten-free
Hours of operation:
- Monday to Friday: 12pm-Late
- Saturday and Sunday: 10am-Late
In contrast to many sprawling country pubs, visiting a city-centre Glasgow pub was a distinctly different experience. Still, as soon as you step into The Horn, you’re greeted by smiling, very openly dog-loving staff and a station with water and treats.
It’s also very spacious, meaning you’re unlikely to feel cramped up if other dogs or families come in, and it has an outdoor terrace. Plus, you’re right in Glasgow’s West End, meaning there’s plenty to do.
Port-na-Craig Inn, Pitlochry
Address: Port-Na-Craig Rd, Port na Craig, Pitlochry, Perthshire, PH16 5ND
Telephone: 01796 472777
Nearest train station: Pitlochry rail station
Reservations needed: Reservations recommended for indoor seating but not allowed outdoors
Indoor or outdoor seating: Both
Price range (meal and a pint): £15-£25
Dietary requirements? Vegan, vegetarian, and gluten-free options
Hours of operation:
- Monday to Saturday: 11am-10pm
- Sunday: 11am-6pm
Another day, another stunning waterside location to enjoy a drink. With water bowls, treats, and poo bags, the offering is standard, but the Port-na-Craig Inn is right opposite a pond in which your pup can cool themselves down on really hot days.
Although the venue welcomes dogs, this one’s more for the humans. It’s a tranquil, scenic spot that’s worth seeking out (as it’s a little tucked away on the side of the road) amidst miles of fantastic walking territory along the River Tummell.
The Best Dog-Friendly Pub in Scotland: The Tinsmith, Dundee
Address: 11-13 Old Hawkhill, Dundee, Angus, DD1 5EU
Telephone: 01382 801253
Nearest train station: Dundee Station
Reservations needed: Walk-ins welcome
Indoor or outdoor seating: Both available
Price range (meal and a pint): £10-20
Dietary requirements? Vegetarian and gluten-free
Hours of operation:
- Sunday to Thursday: 10am-12am
- Friday and Saturday: 10am-1am
The Tinsmith is a buzzy city pub with a reputation for good quality food at a reasonable price. The burgers are particularly legendary, and there’s also a top selection of local tipples on offer – the Highland Moonshine from nearby St Andrews comes highly recommended.
As for the dogs, they’re greeted with a treat and a bowl of water, plus there are ice creams and treats available to buy. And the staff offered our PHO’s dog a ball! A real ball! That’s dog nirvana. A tip for owners: they don’t advise coming in after 7pm on Saturdays, as things can get a bit too lively for most dogs.
Other Dog-Friendly Pubs Our Reviewer Visited in Scotland
Our PHO looked at some other pubs, too, if you happen to be nearby:
Is Your Dog Pub-Friendly?
Some dogs feel right at home at the pub, but for others, the noises and crowds can be overwhelming. At busy times especially, anxious dogs might feel uncomfortable. If you think your pup might have more fun sitting this one out, there are lots of friendly Rover dog sitters across Scotland who can take good care of them while you enjoy your pub visit.
