  • Not a substitute for professional veterinary help.

Yes! Iceberg, romaine, and green leaf lettuce are safe for your dog. The greener the lettuce, the healthier it will be for your dog. Lettuce is a great source of vitamin A and K. These vitamins support the health of your dog’s liver, blood, vision, immune function, and cell function.

Your dog shouldn’t eat a large amount of this vegetable, or it can lead to gas and other digestive issues.

Serving Ideas

Dogs can enjoy raw or cooked lettuce, but your dog will have an easier time digesting cooked lettuce. Dogs can eat lettuce:

  • Cooked as an ingredient in a homemade meal that’s balanced with a good source of protein.
  • Steamed and given to your dog as a treat on occasion.
  • Chopped finely or blended and sprinkled on top of their dog food.

What Else Can Your Dog Eat?

We offer a collection of articles on foods that are safe, dangerous or even toxic for dogs to eat, including vegetables, dairy, bread, and junk food. Check out which fruits and veg are good for your dog and which spices and seasonings are ok to give to your furry little buddy. We’ve created these articles to ensure you’re informed on feeding your dog a wonderfully varied diet while learning the limitations of a dog’s sensitive digestive system.
