The 13 Best Dog Raincoats for Wet Walks

Unless you’ve got a serious water lover for a pet, most dogs are not exactly big fans of wet weather. Come to think of it, when the rainy season comes around, plenty of us humans feel the same way.

But, as the days get shorter, we all know it’s important to get outside, even in the rain. That’s where a good dog raincoat comes in. Just as with people, the right raincoat for the weather can make all the difference—taking a rainy walk from cold and miserable to actually not-all-that-bad.

An added bonus for the dog parents: wearing a raincoat doesn’t just prevent your furry friend from getting drenched (a state that can leave them shivering and cold, and can weaken their immune system, just like us), but it also keeps them from shaking off that excess water inside the house when you both get home. That’s a win we can get behind!

When shopping for a dog rain jacket, the most important consideration is size. Because not all dog raincoats are manufactured in the same way, your pet could be a small in one coat and a large in another, so make sure you use your dog’s measurements and the product size chart as a guide. With the right tools and information, you can find the perfect fit and the best raincoat for your pet.

Take a look at our top picks for the best dog raincoats below.

The 13 Best Dog Raincoats

It’s insulated in the same way as winter horse blankets, making it perfect cold weather or winter coat, and the waterproof outer shell keeps the rain out. Comes in a variety of sizes and fun colors to brighten up a gray day.

Going Beyond the Gear

Rain gear for dogs will definitely make the wet season more bearable, but there are other things you can do to make rainy day walks safe and fun.

  • For rain-shy dogs, quick potty breaks in covered areas are best.
  • If your dog loves the rain, don’t limit their walking! Rain won’t hurt (but make sure you have your own umbrella or rain jacket, and good waterproof boots to stay dry).
  • Dry off thoroughly after the walk to help your dog warm up more quickly (and keep the furniture dry, of course).
  • Puddles are fine to splash in, but don’t let your dog drink from a puddle, which can be full of bacteria, oils, and other icky stuff getting stirred up by the rain.
  • When in doubt, listen to your dog. She’ll let you know if she wants to stay out in the rain or not.
