They’re big, they’re slobbery, and they eat as much as a whole family of dogs. But owners of big dogs like Great Danes, St. Bernards and Newfoundlands know that although living with their large dog contains a unique set of challenges, it’s totally worth it. Here’s a tongue-in-cheek look at why having a large dog is not for the faint hearted.

Mealtimes are suitably epic. Can you picture the washing up?

“Aww what a cute little puppy, I wanna squish him.” said no-one ever.

The only clothes that fit them are XXL.

They need constant reassurance that they’re just big-boned.

Sometimes it’s hard to tell if you’ve got one dog or two…

Their tongues are the size of your arm.

The couch is for humans? We don’t think so.

When all you wanted was a lap dog and that was fine when they were a puppy.

Picking them up is almost impossible. We still don’t know how this guy did it.

Their size can make them a little inconsiderate.

And they aren’t the most agile of all dogkind.

People are always asking “Cool bear. Where did you get him?”

Or “Oh my what an unusual sheep you have”.

Some are so big they often get mistaken for humans.

Some big dogs don’t quite understand how big they are.

Their tails should come with a health and safety warning.

They are often known to be lazy bones.

But there’s no denying they’re adorable.
