10 Reasons Chihuahuas are the Absolute Best

Dog Love

This tiny dog breed with the big personality has found its way into the hearts of dog lovers all over. Long after the days of Taco Bell and Tinkerbell, Chihuahuas remain popular, adorable, and quite simply the best. They even have their own “For Dummies” book!

Whether your Chi is sassy purebred or a saucy mix, I think we can all agree on the following:

1. They can go everywhere with you and you’ll both look awesome

Weighing in at a mighty 3.3 to 6.5 pounds, Chihuahuas are the perfect size for apartments and travel, making them ideal as starter dogs.

2. They’ve got a long and cool history

Chihuahuas have an ancient legacy, dating back to their ancestor, the Techichi. People have loved these companion dogs since around 300 BC. According to popular legend, Chihuahuas are their masters’ guides into heaven.

3. They’re the perfect size

Most of them are smaller than cats. An adult Chihuahua has an average height of 6 – 9 inches, making them furrever babies.

4. They look awesome in clothes

Whether your Chi is a diva or more of a casual pup, they can express their personal style with the perfect outfit. And sometimes they need those clothes to stay warm. Awwwww.

5. There are seven different types, each cuter than the last

Long-coat, smooth-coat, apple-head, deer-head, fawn, teacup, and pear-head. We love ’em all.

6. They live life to the fullest

From cuddling on the couch to shrugging off life-altering disabilities, you can find a story of a Chihuahua living their best life.

7. They have been known to organize

And then they run the town. Even if she wasn’t elected, this fashionable gal rocked her job as mayor for a day.

8. Even when they’re bad, they’re cute

It’s hard to stay mad at that little smirk!

9. They’re occasionally possessed

But in the cutest way possible.

10. They’re forever loyal to their people

No one loves like a Chihuahua. Do they sometimes love too hard? Yes. But does their undying loyalty to you make them excellent watchdogs, friends, and cuddle babies? Yes. And if you’re ever in a jam and need a friendly sitter to look after your little bundle of joy while you’re away, Rover.com has plenty of sitters who provide dog boarding and cuddles.
