Working with Kimberly completely changed how we understand and work with Josie. Instead of just teaching commands, she helped Josie learn how to think, regulate herself, and confidently handle real-life situations. The concept-based, game-focused approach made training enjoyable and stress-free, with lasting results. Josie is more confident, engaged, and responsive, and our relationship is stronger because we understand why things work—not just what to do.

Kelsey was great with my two dogs and really helped them both from the initial adoption to their current, well trained status. She was great with everything from basic needs (potty training, basic commands) all the way through multi-step commands and easier walking.

I was really disappointed with my experience. I paid $93 for a consultation that could have easily been done over the phone. During the session, the trainer didn’t even interact with my dog and basically just asked me questions from a pre-filled questionnaire. At the end, I was given two training plans that felt generic and AI-generated, rather than personalized to my dog. Overall, I felt like I didn’t get the value I expected and would not recommend this service.

Margaret was incredibly thoughtful and genuinely lovely to work with. She brought fresh ideas every time we hit a roadblock and understood my dog in a way that felt both intuitive and practical. She always had a creative solution ready to go, and thanks to her approach, my dog made a ton of progress in such a short time. 10/10 recommend!

About: I don’t believe in cookie-cutter training. Your dog isn’t like every other dog, so why should the training be? I’m all about getting to know your dog as a unique individual. I listen first, then create a plan that fits your dog and your lifestyle. I’ve worked with dogs of all breeds and sizes—from rescues and seniors to puppies and those struggling with fear, reactivity, or aggression. I’ll always be honest about what I can offer and realistic about what to expect. I’m here to help you both every step of the way.

Elizabeth was wonderful and very knowledgeable. She gave me a lot of tips and knowledge to train and help our family dog get used to our toddler. Our dog even ran to the window looking for her when she left. Very grateful and would recommend 100%.

FAQs

Frequently asked questions about Dog Training on Rover

To list on Rover, trainers must:

Pass a third-party background check

Show proof of education or certification in dog training

Commit to rewards-based training

Rewards-based training encourages dogs to offer desired behaviors by reinforcing the behavior with something the dog likes, including treats, play, or toys. Rewards-based training prioritizes using the least intrusive intervention; it promotes thinking rather than punishing mistakes.

When rewards are used, the likelihood the behavior is repeated increases. The positive connection to the reward results in making learning enjoyable, strengthens the human-animal bond and over time leads to consistent desired behaviors.

Training can happen many places — your home, a park, a store, or anywhere else that you and your trainer decide is best for the training you are doing! Many trainers will recommend training in your home. This allows them to observe your dog in their natural environment so they can effectively assess and best help reach your training goals.

Trainers will often mention on their profile where they typically hold training sessions, but you can always contact a trainer to learn more!

No problem! When you initially contact a trainer, you will be prompted to select a proposed first session date — this is not final, and is confirmed only if both parties decide to move forward. We also recommend contacting multiple trainers to make sure you find a trainer that is the right fit for you and your pet.

Of course! Having a trainer that is the right fit for both you and your pup is an important step to reaching your training goals. We recommend reaching out to any trainer that interests you. Your initial request is not final until both you and the trainer decide you want to move forward with booking.

Also, trainers may offer or require consultations. Make sure to ask trainers so you can make the best decision for you and your pet.

Many trainers on Rover indicate experience in a wide range of behaviors, from puppy training to more advanced behaviors and training types.

Review a trainer's profile to see if their experience aligns with your needs, and if you have questions, don't hesitate to contact them to ensure they're the right trainer for you and your pet.
