Pet care experience

Flexible and friendly dog carers!

We're Seb and Hannah, a couple in our early thirties living in a ground-floor flat with a garden in Leytonstone. Dogs have been part of both our lives for as long as we can remember, and looking after them is something we genuinely love doing. Between us we've grown up with all sorts: labradors, cockapoos, springer spaniels and cocker spaniels, so we're used to a real range of personalities and energy levels. Seb grew up in Cornwall, where walking dogs by the sea and across the countryside was just part of everyday life. Hannah grew up in Lancashire with spaniels who always wanted to be out on the hills, at the park, or playing fetch. The contrast between Seb's labradors, who were happy snoozing most of the day before wanting attention in the evening, and Hannah's spaniels, who wanted to be involved in absolutely everything, taught us early on that every dog is different and needs to be looked after on their own terms. That's probably what sets us apart: we're not just dog lovers, we're properly experienced with lots of different breeds and temperaments, and we know how to read what a dog actually needs rather than applying a one size fits all routine. Our flat makes this easy too. Our ground floor garden means toilet breaks are never a rush, and our quiet residential street is perfect for calmer, low key strolls throughout the day, whatever the time. We've lived in Leytonstone for almost three years and know it inside out, especially the best walking spots, so for dogs that need more space to run we're always heading out to Epping Forest, Hollow Ponds or Wanstead Park. We're keen walkers ourselves, so keeping up with even the most energetic dogs has never been a problem. We dog sit often, both for our parents and for friends, and we always try to keep things as close to a dog's normal routine as possible. We regularly look after a friend's whippet, who comes to stay with us because we keep him on his usual morning and afternoon walks with plenty of relaxing in between. We've looked after a friend's rescue Staffy, Lana, who preferred shorter walks and made up for it by wanting to sit on top of you given half the chance. And we've looked after Seb's brother's springer spaniel, Ted, who's probably the most people obsessed dog we've ever met and full of energy, which suits us fine as we're pretty active ourselves. Seb works four days a week for an architecture practice in Bermondsey, so he's free for full days of dog care on Fridays and all weekend, and Hannah works in communications for a local council. We can both work from home on Tuesdays and/or Thursdays, so we can take dogs from Thursday morning to Sunday evening. Between us we can be flexible, from a few hours to a full day to a few days once your dog knows us. We know how important it is to find people you trust, so we're always happy to meet beforehand somewhere you can see for yourself, and to keep in regular contact while we're looking after your dog.

Hannah and Seb were great. We felt so comfortable leaving Madge in their really lovely flat and she clearly felt very comfortable there. The communication was good and we’d have no hesitation in leaving Madge with them again (if they’d have her!)

Very professional service from Seb. A bit of a mix up (my fault!) and he was very patient and professional. Really pleased all round.

Seb has looked after my dog Ralph (black lab) a few times before joining Rover. My dog loves long walks and Seb was happy to help with these, not sure who enjoyed the length of the walks more to be honest.. Ralph or Seb. Always feel comfortable when leaving him with Seb as I know he’s in safe hands!

Seb is a very honest and reliable individual. His time keeping is excellent. He is a great communicator getting on well with everyone he comes into contact with. In relation to caring for dogs, he has had sole responsibility for our dog over a period of time and I would trust him completely to always respond appropriately to any dogs’ needs. I volunteer for the Cinnamon Trust so fully understand the requirements for being a dog walker and would have no hesitation in recommending Seb for this role.

Seb is an excellent pet caregiver. Numerous times Seb has looked after my dog. I have an English Springer Spaniel which needs constant attention and strong boundaries. Seb is excellent at dealing with my high energy dog. He has taken it on many long and enjoyable walks, and has spent many days/nights looking after him when I've been away with zero issues and no complications ever. I would be more than happy to leave Seb with my dog and would feel comfortable if he had 11 more to look after as well.

Seb is exactly what you want in a dog walker — reliable, punctual, and great at keeping you in the loop. He walked our Staffordshire Bull Terrier Lana and handled her brilliantly. She always came back happy. Wouldn't hesitate to recommend him!

Schedule

Pet care fits really naturally into our week. Seb works four days, so he's free to look after your dog on Fridays and right through the weekend, and we both work from home on Tuesday or Thursday too, so there's always at least one of us around for most of the week. On the days we're working from home, we build walks into the day as a matter of course, one before work in the morning, another at lunchtime, and a final one after work. We're early risers by nature, so mornings are never rushed, and we're generally very flexible people who can shift our own routine around to suit your pooch rather than the other way round. Weekends are when we really stretch our legs. We always set aside time for one longer walk, usually five to ten miles, so if your dog loves getting out and properly tiring themselves out, weekends with us are ideal. Not a problem if not though as we’re more than happy to keep it chilled and potter around the house or garden.

Safety, trust & environment

Our flat is the ground floor of a terraced house, with a private fenced garden that's secure for safe time outdoors. It's a two bed flat with a separate living room, bathroom and kitchen, plenty of space for a dog to settle in. We're extremely clean and tidy as we're renting, and the same goes for the garden, kept neat but with enough left a bit wild for nature too. We take safety and trust seriously when it comes to looking after our friends' pets, and a lot of that comes down to knowing the dog properly. We always ask owners to walk us through everything beforehand, what the dog needs, how often they're used to toilet breaks or walks, and anything specific about their personality, since we know from our own experience that every dog is different and needs to be looked after on their own terms. Where we can, we try to keep things as close to their normal routine as possible so they feel settled rather than unsettled by somewhere new. We stay in the same room as the dog at all times unless told otherwise, and we work best with clear instructions from owners so we're all on the same page. We're always happy to meet beforehand somewhere you can see for yourself too, and we keep in regular contact with owners throughout, whether that's a quick check in or answering any questions at all.
