commented question Can I block certain owners from my profile?

I had a guy who I met outside of Rover 2 years ago, just track me down on Rover! We went on 3 dates 2 years ago, I broke it off. I ended up having to block him from my phone, my email....and he now tracked me down and sent me a dog sitting request!!! Super creepy! And, I can't block him!!

commented question Do you really charge extra $ for each additional dog?

This is totally up to you. I say don't change your prices unless you have to. You can always edit prices for each stay. Doesn't matter what popped up in the request. If you want to give someone a better rate, you can edit that. But, I wouldn't get in the habit of doing that, or they will expect it.

answered a question why dog gets bar soap and rolls in it?

Better than her EATING it! Haha

answered a question Help! Puppy peeing inside - but only when I am home?

I suggest going with the suggestions above. I recently adopted a dog who's previous adoptive owners said "Don't bring her back." She is the SWEETEST dog. But, she is a puppy. She has LOTS of energy and loves to be outside, so she used to bolt for the door. We chased her a LOT the first few weeks. I am guessing that is what the previous owners got tired of doing. Then, she started pooping in my son's bed. ONLY his bed. Not ever in my bed, or even my room! Only HIS bed. And she would do it with him sitting RIGHT THERE. I told him that he: #1. Is not paying attention to her signs. #2. Is not seen as an alpha. He started paying more attention, walking her more, and being more involved. She hasn't pooped anywhere except outside for a few weeks now.

Best of luck!!!

answered a question How to charge for overtime, stays lasting over 24 hours but less then 48?

You can adjust your rates before the booking is final. If it's already booked, I would simply take this as a learning opportunity, and make sure to let the client know (through Rover messaging, so it's on the record), that in the future there will be an additional fee for stays over 24 hours.

answered a question Do you charge extra to pick-up a dog?

Agree with the previous answers. I would charge. Explain that you will simply charge enough to cover the cost of gas during morning rush-hour traffic.

answered a question Why do I have a large balance under Promo Code?

I would contact Rover support to make sure it is clear.

answered a question How long for reviews to show up?

I believe they show up immediately. May be something to email Rover support about.

answered a question When staying overnight in a persons home do I need to bring groceries for myself for the week?

I don't even ask. I always bring my own food. I have had a couple of clients tell me to "make myself at home." But, I am not a house guest. I am working. So, I bring my own food.

answered a question What if dog absolutely destroys house due to separation anxiety?

I'm so sorry that happened to you! I am not sure exactly how I would handle it.I would possibly bring it up to the client in a passive way. Maybe just make it a statement. See what they say. Maybe they can at least meet you half-way with the cost. From now on: this dog goes in a kennel! :-/

I don't board in my home anymore. But, when I did, I stated in my profile that my ONLY requirement was that pets be kenneled when I leave my home. I do the same with my own pet.

answered a question Do you walk your dogs in storms/downpour of rain?

I always ask the client. I don't plan ahead by checking weather reports like the previous answers. I need to start doing that. But, I usually ask the client "will your dog go potty if it's raining?" Something like that.

answered a question Do sitters typically include walks during the day in the overnight fee?

That is between you and the client. If you already include that service in your fee, then let her know that while you appreciate the offer for extra compensation, it isn't necessary. You are not obligated to charge extra. Everyone does it differently. She will probably be ecstatic to know that it is already included in your price. I would include those services in my fee, as well. I believe it is part of the service we are offering as overnight sitters.

commented answer After Stay: Thank you/goodie bags?

Thanks for the ideas!

commented answer New Rover Sitter

Yes, I would be interested in that, as well!

answered a question Is it okay to go to work while dog is staying?

Just put that information in your profile. I ask that dogs go in a crate when I am gone. I required the same of my own dog. Just be up front. Make sure it is clear so that there is no miscunderstanding. Some people don't mind. I always confirm before accepting any stay. Good luck!!!

answered a question Your host fees are significantly higher than the industry standard . . .

Julie, are you asking as a pet sitter, or as a client? I was upset in the beginning when I saw 15% come out of my "profit." But, it really i worth it. The insurance and the support are really worth that small fee. And, without Rover. com, I wouldn't be doing so well with my pet sitting business.

answered a question calendar/advance booking

I have a monthly client. They simply go in every month, a week or so before the weekend they leave and request me. I put everything in my Google calendar, as well. And, I set lots of reminders. I know it is extra steps for us, but if that's what I have to do for now, then I will do it. Rover is improving with time. So, hopefully we will be able to book farther in advance soon!

answered a question what if I am only available during the day?

Also, you can set it up more as dog walking, or doggie daycare. Just put all the info in your profile/info.

commented answer I am new, how do I get clients?

No, Carlos, I think what people mean is: 1. Have photos of all these things on your Rover profile. 2. Hand out business cards (Then, when they use the info from your card to go to your Rover profile, they will see the pictures) Good luck!!

commented answer After Stay: Thank you/goodie bags?

Love love love this idea!

answered a question I am new, how do I get clients?

Follow everyone's advice. The clients will come. It took about a month for me to get my first request. Now, I get them weekly. I actually have to turn people down. Keep checking in. Stay active. Fill everything out. Post pictures. Definitely testimonials. It helps. Business cards, flyers, dog parks, Facebook, Craigslist....it will come.

answered a question After Stay: Thank you/goodie bags?

I have started doing this for my clients. I am mainly a travelling sitter. So, most of the time, pet parents are not home while I care for their pets. They like coming home to a thank you card and doggy treats. I bought some very simple, generic cards that simply say "thank you" on the front, and are blank inside for a hand-written message. Then, I bought a package of stickers (paw prints) to adorn the cards. Voila! Grab some cellophane bags, and wrap up some treats! These are some great ideas, everyone!

answered a question Why do dogs eat cat poop?

I agree! I hadn't even thought of asking WHY! Here is some info I found:

http://www.petmd.com/blogs/nutritionn...

answered a question Do you stay in their home?

Yes, I have done both as well. I ask the client what type of service they are looking for and discuss from there. I actually haven't had anyone book me as "dog walking," yet. I am fairly new, and still learning.

answered a question Can you add daycare to available services?

I would have thought you could list it as "boarding." I know it's not the same thing, but it could work for billing, since you can edit your rate for each client.

answered a question Applying for a business license?

I hadn't even thought of this! This is good info! Thank you, for asking, and answering!

commented answer How do I know I can trust these sitters and how do I know they will take care of my furbabies?

That is horrible, Donna! I am so sorry!

answered a question Sitter's use for Rover bucks???

This is an excellent question! I haven't had any Rover Bucks, yet. I wonder if you could use it toward things like Rover business cards and other Rover gear?

answered a question Writing reviews on client's dogs

Laura, do you mean that we can't "see" the text we entered. I was putting in notes for future reference. Guess I better get a notebook!

answered a question Is the pet first aid expensive

Great question!

I found this in another post: http://www.pettech.net/index.php

And, this in another post: http://www.pethealthacademy.com

I found this online: http://www.redcross.org/take-a-class/program-highlights/cpr-first-aid/wilderness-sports-pets (http://www.redcross.org/take-a-class/...)

Glad you asked! I need to do this!

edited answer When do I book a stay?

That is up to you and the potential client. I think meet and greets are a good idea. You get an idea of what the dogs are like while you have the owner there as a buffer. So, you can ask any questions you may see come up such as behavior, size, layout of the home, etc. So, I would ask them if they are available for a meet and greet. But, I have had clients book me without a meet and greet.
