answered a question shots and paperwork?

That would be a question you would ask the particular sitter that you have hired or are considering. Each sitter is able to make their own requirements/polices with regards to shots and proof required. Some will require that they be spayed, but some don't.

asked a question What cleaning do you do for overnights?

I definitely clean up after myself and the animals that I am watching. I try to leave the home so that the owner can not tell I was there (meaning they don't have to come home and clean up after me). I empty all the trash cans and take it out. I even wash dishes they have left in the sink as they are often those last minute cups and bowls before the dashed out to the airport, etc. I am mostly curious if others wash the bedding and towels that they use?

asked a question When do you cancel?

With regards to weather, under what circumstances would you cancel a walking appointment? I have been walking dogs in the rain with no issue. I always ask owners how their dogs do as far as walking or going potty in the rain. I have not had a dog yet in which the owner said there would be an issue. But today I got to thinking....what if were thunder and/or lightening? Or what about cold winter weather temperatures? Do you ever cancel due to weather? Or cancel a walking appointment and turn it into a drop-in instead?

asked a question When do you start/stop the clock?

When it comes to walks and drop-ins...when do you start the appointment? When you walk in the door, when the walk literally starts, etc?

commented answer Requested testimonials--Why couldn't they leave one?

I too think you might need to wait until you are approved. I am pretty sure that is how I did it as well

asked a question Your opinion on what to charge?

I have been getting some "different" requests and am still a little unsure what to charge for them - so I would love for some advice.

This time I have someone who wants me to come by 1 time a day for a 30 minute or 1 hour visit. She has 7 dogs (2 foster dogs and one is pending adoption in October) so there would eventually be 6. The largest is 35-40 lbs. She has 2 girls who cannot be in the same room so need to always be separated (so I have to learn her system for moving them around). No meds or feeding involved. Just letting them out in the yard to potty, giving them attention and playing with them. She said I could walk a couple of them if I wanted. This would be a 3 time a week booking and a regular job. What would you charge in a situation like this? If I go by my normal fee schedule, the charge would be $45 for all 7 dogs (30 min session). Does that sound reasonable?

commented answer What would you charge?

Thank you....at least I feel better knowing I wasn't overreacting. What is odd is that she leaves them 9-10 hours a day for work. I explained that I could guarantee her that IF I needed to leave I would not leave them for longer than 4 hours...and only to check on my dogs or other clients.

asked a question What would you charge?

I have a client wanting to book me for 24/7 House sitting from Dec 22-31st. They don't sound like they will be any trouble watching. I do need to give them phenobarbital 2 time a day. My normal holiday rate is $50 for 2 dogs. This will be most first holiday as a sitter. I imagine this is maybe a peak time for getting clients? I am struggling with only charging her $450 for those 9 days when I think of all the other business I might be losing out on (since she does not want me to leave her house during that time). I have already told her that due to the holiday and me having to block out my schedule for her request that the fee would be higher....I just haven't quoted a fee yet. I am at a loss for what to charge.

Any advice?

asked a question Why review a stay?

What is the purpose of a sitter reviewing a stay/animal? Does the owner have star ratings on their profile for us to view? The instructions say it is for Rover's internal use? Does not reviewing a stay affect a sitters rating or position in searches at all? I don't know really what to say in these reviews....especially for the same animals over and over

commented answer "Give$20, Get $20"?

Thank you!!!!!! That makes sense. :)

asked a question "Give$20, Get $20"?

I am confused. I thought if a new customer used our referral code they received $20 off their first booking. I clicked on the "Give $20, Get $20" link at the top of the Rover webpage, and it says not only would the customer get $20 off but that we (the sitter) get $20. Which is it? Or are these 2 separate deals?

asked a question What should I charge for Drop-Ins longer than 30 minutes?

I am getting requests for drop-ins that are longer than 30 minutes (couples just wanting a sitter while they have date night, etc). If my 30 minute fee is $15 for the first dog and $5 each additional, what would you recommend charging for 2 dogs for 3 or 4 hours? My hangup is that I currently only charge $35 for an overnight of 1 dog and $10 for the second.

Does anyone offer an hourly rate (for drop-ins/walking)?
