asked a question When do you typically receive bookings for Thanksgiving?

Hi, normally I get bookings pretty regularly, and holidays are especially busy. However, Thanksgiving is in a few days and I've received no booking requests for the holiday. I'm really surprised - I was expecting it to be busy. Is everyone waiting the last minute to book, or staying home for the holidays? Anyone else experiencing this?

commented answer Expecting food to be included?

Thanks, the idea to send a list of needed supplies the day before is a good one too.

commented answer Expecting food to be included?

Thanks for your feedback, this is all what I explain to new clients now, and it really helps avoid any confusion!

commented question Expecting food to be included?

Thanks for your response - I ended up adding to my profile that food needs to be brought for pets, under the other needed supplies for people's pets, and I make sure to let mew client's know at meet and greets to bring food. I also explained it can upset their digestion. This has really helped.

asked a question Policy on Booking When Client is Communicating Poorly?

A potential new client requested a meeting at a certain time, then got stuck in traffic, and said they would not make it at the scheduled time. I said I could meet for several more hours - plenty of time for them to make it to the meet and greet, or I could try to squeeze them in for an appointment on another day. They said ok to pushing the time later, and that they would let me know when they were closer to the place we scheduled the meeting at - indicating they still wanted to meet that day, and saying nothing about preferring to reschedule. The meeting is down the road from me, so I can get there on short notice. Two hours go by, and I know there is no way it should take them that long to arrive.

I message the client because I should have heard from them by now - asking if they made it back yet and if they still wanted to meet. They inform me they went home instead and were making dinner/getting ready for bed. Then ask if I can fit them in a couple days from then.

At this point, I'm upset that my time has been disrespected, because they changed their plans without notice, went home, and did not bother to message me as they said.

My question is, what is your policy if a client does not follow through on a meeting? Would you archive the request in a situation like this, or offer to reschedule once more? If you close the request, how would you word your message about closing the request in this particular situation?

asked a question What to charge for transporting about 20 miles?

A potential client wants pick up for their dog from their hotel very early in the morning (before 7). The dog needs day care only, not boarding. They also want drop off for their dog later in the day at their workplace. The total distance driving back and forth from these places to my house is about 20 miles, and will take over 50 minutes of driving time. With this early pick up time, distance/time commitment, gas cost, wear and tear on car, and 20 % fee given to rover, I quoted the client $30 for the full transport cost. After fees and gas expenses, I would be paid about $20 for transporting, for an hour of driving.

My day care rate is very low and fair ($16) already. After rover fees, I would keep $12.80. I am watching the dog for 9 hours.

I believe my rate is very reasonable for the amount of time and effort I'm putting into transport. Client wants to pay $20 for transport (meaning I would keep $9 after rover fees and gas expenses, for an hour of driving). My question is, would you charge $30 for transport under these circumstances? If not how much would you charge? Also, would early pick ups affect your pricing? If so, how much?

asked a question Expecting food to be included?

Have you ever had clients show up on the day of booking and not bring all their pets food?

I had a multi pet booking, for a week long stay, where the pet parent showed up with wet food, but told me they did not bring them dry, and expected me to provide it. They never discussed at the meet and greet that they wanted me to provide dry food - they just said they would be bringing their food. While I don't mind providing food, it should definitely be requested in advance, especially since they wanted me to feed multiple animals for a week. It would also require a rate increase, as I use a high quality food, and feeding multiple animals would be costly. I was just kind of surprised that would be their expectation.

I kindly told the client I don't normally provide food (not free of charge), and they thankfully had no problem with picking some up and dropping it by later the same day.

Has this ever happened with other sitters bookings? What are your thoughts?
