Scammers sending requests?

So I just dealt with a scammer for the fist time. He created his profile today, which is OK except his first question was to "drop my contact, so we can talk better"

He then sends his out-of- state number.

He sends a boarding request for Lhasa Apso dog and in his message he says he is looking for a walker for his golden, and says walking and feeding help required.

He gets upset when I tell him this is not cool to ask "to drop my contact" and he tells me he will not be needing my services again! Again? We never worked together before, so there you go.

I reported him to Rover.

This scamming trend is taking over the internet, Craigslist, Next door , emails, social media but this one is the first one for me on Rover.

So be careful.

@ Lenka That happen to me about two weeks ago. There was a gentleman who wanted me to take care of his dog. He was suppose to send me a check so I can cash it. Buy some supplies for his dog. and he was will to pay me 25 a hr. I also reported him to Rover.

So many scammers everywhere!

Just had this happen to me as well.. didn’t provide him with any of my information as he seems to want to pay off rover and that’s the first red flag

Same just happened to me too. A guy named Alex Preches. He wanted to pay me with a check and wanted me to send him my personal information and a couple of pictures of myself. His whole message sounded sketchy and he wanted all communications via gmail instead of the app.

did he say he was deaf??

I got that same message too, Alex Perches, said he was deaf. Very sketchy asking for address and pictures. He even attached pictures of some family (no dog).

Reported him- got a similar message

Omg Alex Preches did this to me too today!!!

I got a message from Alex Perches as well and he sent me a fake check. He is a scammer don’t trust him!!

Exact same thing. Alex perches. But every time I asked what services and times were needed, he would avoid the question. Went as far as getting the check. I called the bank he sent the cashiers check from and they said the account is invalid. Confronted him, haven’t heard from him since.

This just happened to me. A profile named Tristan requested that I email him at daltonrakes32@gmail.com, he said he’s deaf & works with the deaf community and he’s moving into my area, he offered me $25/he & sent me a check for 2760.53. 400 for me & the rest for dog supplies. Check was fraudulent

Now there’s one names James Weber

Customer wanted my private# so I gave him Google voice# and to pay extra to mail me a check to buy dog food. When I told him I can only accept payment through the Rover app, he was silent. I reported with screenshots. https://www.consumer.ftc.gov/articles/how-spot-avoid-and-report-fake-check-scams

I was skeptical when he wanted my phone#. I know the message relay through the app works just fine, and there is no reason to give a phone# before the meet and greet so that was the first warning, and I won't do that again. Reported to Rover

A Henry M. just did it to me.

Wow, this brings up the topic of pet owner and back ground checks again. Rover needs to require background checks for pet owners booking through Rover from now on. It may take a little longer to get new people using the site, but the safety of the sitters matters just as much as the pet parents.

Absolutely! I agree with that. When we have a meet and greet, I don't even know who I am meeting, what their last name is etc....

Tons of sitter report that they are being Spammed by fraudulent profiles, your best course of action is to report it immediately to Rover Support so they can delete the bogus profile @[Edit: Rover’s contact options have changed. Visit the Rover Help Center at https://support.rover.com/ to find the phone number, help articles, or chat with the team]

I had a similar issue when I posted to NextDoor with a link to my Rover profile. There is a check scam going around. Basically if anyone refuses to book through Rover and offers to pay via check, politely decline and cut off contact. My response typically entails that Rover offers the emergency insurance and for the animal's safety, I require booking through Rover. A legitimate pet owner requesting you should understand this and want to keep their pet protected.

i've had a HUGE number of scammers. at least 5/6 in the past month- which sucks because I've gotten excited about the stays/ walks. I've also had a lot of last minute cancellations that I can't tell if they were scams. I've reported but am conscerned it will affect my placement on the site

I’ve been contacted about this! Already had given my address before I became too uncomfortable with the request!! Does he have enough information for the scam? What exactly is the scam???
