asked a question How do I edit a stay price after I've already booked it?

I booked a stay with a client for 6 visits and she changed her mind and would like to do only 5. I want to go in and edit the price instead of leaving her a cash refund. Any idea how to edit the already booked price?

answered a question Is there a way for a sitter to review a dog?

Is it somehow possible to find out what other sitters have watched that dog? Because I would do my research if I had a bad gut feeling about one!

commented answer Are laser pointer for dogs bad?

Yikes! I didn't know that could become so bad!

answered a question What is the best kind of crate to get for a small to mid-sized dog?

I am with Olivia on this one- we got a crate that was large enough for the full grown size and had a divider so we could keep it small enough for her as she grew. That prevented accidents- she never peed in her crate even from 10weeks old!

answered a question I'm getting a puppy soon. What materials should I buy before he arrives?

These answers are all great- however I had a GREAT time taking my new puppy to the store with me (in the basket so she wasn't on the floor of the pet store) and letting her sniff toys and pick things out with me. :) Before that all I had gotten was a heavy duty crate with a divider so it would grow with her, and the pee pads because she wouldn't have cared to help pick those out ;)

answered a question Under weight Male Boxer?

I recently switched my dog to annamaet dog food that has 26% more protein in it to help her gain some pounds. She's so active that she doesn't keep weight on!

Before doing this we did have the vet run tests to be sure she was getting the nutrients from her food like she should. Perhaps your pup is not digesting properly- could be something to ask the vet!

commented answer Why do i still get booking requests after ive booked my capacity for a weekend? And how does that hurt my rating if i have to keep saying no?

Thank you! I thought doing that might hurt the bookings I already have. So just mark as unavailable? Alrighty!

asked a question Why do i still get booking requests after ive booked my capacity for a weekend? And how does that hurt my rating if i have to keep saying no?

I know it's a holiday weekend coming up but man, I've turned away more people than I've ever sat for! All because we have booked our house 'full'

commented answer Should a Sitter request that Owners provide their own dog food during the rover stay?

What an awesome idea! I'm definitely going to start using ID tags with my number on them just in case!

answered a question How do you teach a dog to "Speak"

I used a hand signal like a bird beak talking and would just wait til my dog would get herself riled up enough to bark and then immediately show her that symbol and treat her while saying speak! in a happy voice. It's all about timing- the dog has to know that their noise is what you're pleased about.

Teaching speak was the best thing- now I can tell my dog "no speak" when i want her to be quiet, and "whisper" using the same signal with one finger over my lips like the SHhhh sign. Again, all timing with praise and getting them to do the action on their own first.

answered a question Experience w/service dog training for your own dog?

By most definitions a service dog must provide you a service necessary for everyday function. For example, a medical alert dog that is trained to alert you if your blood sugar is too low or if you're about to have a seizure. Generally you do not train your own dog for this. Therapy dogs, however, are often trained from family pets and can be certified much easier as long as they behave well in social situations. Therapy dogs provide comfort to those around them and therefore are allowed in hospitals, nursing homes, schools (in some special situations), etc. Neither type of certification should be taken lightly- many people use false companies to certify their animals just so they can accompany them everywhere. This has made it harder for people with actual service animals to be taken seriously in their everyday lives, especially if that service animal isn't providing an obvious service (like medical alert).

answered a question How can I get my dog to stop jumping?

This may sound elementary, but a hand outstretched in their direction, flat-palm facing them and a solid "no" usually does it for me. I've been to friend's houses where they pre-apologize for their dog who is barking and straining at their collar to get out the door to me, but if I enter with my hand out and look right at them with a firm no they usually do not jump. After a failed puppy class and a year of embarrassment with my own dog jumping on guests, that is what we've incorporated to break her of the bad habit. Try to enlist strangers to help after you've practiced at home!

answered a question what can I give my dog to calm him down when flying for the first time?

Unfortunately, pugs are not allowed on or in an airplane! They're on the list of short-nosed dogs that airlines fear will not be able to adjust to the change in pressure in the cabin or beneath the plane. Double check with the airline you're intending to use, but given that the largest carriers say no I would be cautious no matter what.

Sorry! I know that's not what you wanted to hear..

answered a question Any suggestions on how to stop puppy mouthing and play biting?

I tried a lot of methods with my dog when she was a puppy, but the best way to show that it hurt us was to stop whatever we were doing (playing) and walk away from her. So anytime she play bites you say OW! and get up and walk away for a few minutes. It stops the play so she wont want to do it again!
