answered a question | Can someone list all 7 of their pets as a single dog? In a nutshell, no effing way lol. Assume good intentions as others have suggested but no way would I care for a small zoo for 25/day nor would Rover want you to. I wouldn't even go on the meet/greet until fee issue is resolved because it may be a no-go. I would have the convo by phone though since it might be a little difficult to explain via text (follow up in writing for your records/safety) . Good luck - let us know how it turns out |
answered a question | What to do about owners who interpret 'housebroken' differently or take advantage of flexible pickup times? My policy for dropoff/pickup is similar to that of a hotel (generally in 4ish/after work and out at the same time - late check-out I guess lol). I'm pretty flexible, especially for my regulars, but I get dropoff/pickup times, flight info if flying, etc ahead of time and I offer half day rates for those who need a late pickup. I usually waive that for flight delays (this flexibility is a way to win a client for life lol). All in all though this isn't a hobby - it's a job. I think you'll find that if you're direct/upfront with them you'll find that 99% of people appreciate ALL the other HUGE advantages to our services over a kennel and are cooperative. |
answered a question | Have you ever had to cancel a stay once it began? What happened? I agree with Serena. I foster occasionally and I've had to"crate & rotate" (Google it if not familiar but it's pretty self-explanatoryโ) due to the foster's issues. I also have a couple of regulars that my dogs are not fond of but not to the degree you describe. Definitely overcommunicate with Rover and the pet parents. It should put them at ease that you're doing your best and handling the matter responsibly. Good luck and let us know how it turns out |

answered a question | Anyone interested in becoming a referral sitter for my clients? Hi Alyssa, Ha - I searched the board using the "networking" tag but not the "network" tag so I didn't see your post. I just posted a request trying to see if any other sitters do this sort of thing and I'm surprised to find someone here in KC! Great minds I guess. I know your post is old and I'm sure your circumstances have evolved but I'd love to touch base with you to see what's going on in your world. |
asked a question | Does anyone network with other sitters in their area? Hi - I've been a Rover sitter (and a sitter in general) for a long time and more & more frequently I get more inquiries than I'm able to accommodate. I've been hesitant to refer other sitters via Rover that I don't know personally on the off chance a problem would arise and it would reflect poorly on me. I've also recently lost my sitter for my own dogs due to a relocation so I'd like to cultivate a relationship for my own future travels. Ideally this network would be cooperative / mutually beneficial ie refer back & forth, agree not to poach each other's clients, set similar rates etc. Just wondering if anyone networks with other sitters. Would you be open to that if someone from your area reached out to you? Thanks in advance |

answered a question | Why are there sitters that appear available on their calendar but then aren't when you try to make an inquiry? This is a late answer but likely an on-going question/issue so I'll throw in my 2 cents. My answer is similar to Carly's above but to go into more detail, the sitter may be generally available on x date but some parameter in your profile excludes them from working with you specifically. For example, my Rover calendar would show me available today but I don't accept dogs who are not spayed/neutered or who are +100lbs. I also live in an area with a massive urban sprawl problem so I'm not available to clients who live 20+ miles from me even though we technically live in the same city. It's gotten better with some of Rover's improvements but it still isn't a perfect system. Also, I try to keep my calendar up to date but I'm super busy and sometimes I book a stay and flat out forget to update my calendar. As for the sitters who don't respond, there's just no excuse for that. Hope that helps - all in all Rover is a great service. If you're still having problems, I would highly encourage you to call their customer service. They can help troubleshoot what the issue might be and help you find someone. Good luck |

commented answer | How to charge for problems after booking (extra cleaning)? Hi Mallory - sure happy to share. Please note that I put my form together myself (no attorney) and I have no idea if it's enforcable or not (probably isn't lol). Like I said in my post, I mainly use it as a "test" and I've had zero issues. Email me at fidosfriendkc@gmail.com and I'll sent it along |

answered a question | How to charge for problems after booking (extra cleaning)? Number one I have a puppy rate - I generally use it for dogs under 6 months but I've gone up to a year and even beyond for the high maintenance kiddos. Puppies are more work and good pet parents understand that. I also have an information form / waiver that includes a permission to treat and language to the effect of "everything I've said here is true and I may be charged a daily damage or cleaning fee of up to xx dollars". Anyone balking at signing is a red flag for multiple reasons. Not saying you don't accept the client but you definitely need to have a follow up conversation. This practice has evolved from some VERY dishonest pet parents that make me wonder what condition their own houses are in but I certainly don't want mine demolished lol |
answered a question | How do I refund the full amount for a cancellation? I've had this happen a couple of times and I have the client submit the cancellation (to make sure I'm not impacted). Then I email Rover support with a brief explanation and request they refund the client's full payment. Easy peasy |
answered a question | what dog breed is the worst to sit for? The worst dog breed? Humans. Far and away. There's no such thing as a bad dog breed IMHO. I've only "fired" a couple of clients for their dogs' bad behavior and it has ALWAYS been due to the human's laziness in bringing up a good social citizen ๐ |
commented answer | Mobile app notifications? Yeah I have texts set up but with a custom Rover sound, it prompted me to check my phone immediately whereas I don't often drop everything to check a text. Hopefully the Rover powers that be monitor the forum board and will bring back this useful, more-money-for-everyone feature hint hint lol |

asked a question | Mobile app notifications? I just got a new phone - is it my imagination or has the ability to set a ringtone for the Rover app disappeared? I can't find it within the app settings - it's just using the default ringtone of the phone. Thanks in advance |
